How many Bushongs can be projected to be living in the U.S. at the end of 2018?
The answer is c: 6000-8000 The Bushong family will have begun the decade with a projected 5320 and will end the decade with a projected 6330 members, or a 1010 person gain. But a more accurate figure is probably 6127 which is how many the exercise predicts. So on December 31, 2018, there will be at least 6127 American Bushongs living. This is determined, using the average increase of 19% every 10 years*, it's possible to project how many Bushongs the census counted decade by decade...
And these figures are probably conservative. Also, with these projections, there'll be an increase of just over 1000 Bushongs from 2010 to 2020, so every year, during this decade, an average 101 new Bushongs will be added. But possibly the real question is, which surprises you? That the family is this large or is it smaller than you thought? *Determining the percentage of increase per decade over nine decades: the average is 19.44%; or by another method, (throwing out the highest and lowest figures) yields 18.56%.
