Hershey.- Mary A., daughter of the late Jacob and Susan (Bushong) Esbenshade, was born Nov. 25, 1852; passed away at her home, New Holland, Pa., May 8, 1948, after a four week illness; aged 95 y. 5 m. 12 d. Her husband (Jacob E. Hershey) passed away ten years ago. One daughter and 3 sons also preceded her in death. Surviving are 2 sons (Herbert and Milton), 3 daughters (Mrs. Bertha Myer, Mrs. Mabel Martin, and Mrs. Margie Hershey, all of Lancaster Co., Pa.), 48 grandchildren, 68 great- grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 3 sisters (Mrs. Sue Kreider, Mrs. Lydia Ebersole, and Mrs. Amanda Mays), and one brother (Adam). Funeral services were held May 11 at her home and at the Hershey Mennonite Church by Martin R. Hershey and Parke Book. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Earl township, Nov. 25, 1852, daughter of Jacob and
Susannah (Bushong) Esbenshade, of Lancaster
county, both of whom died in East Earl township,
where they were farming people all their lives. The
father of Mrs. Hershey died in 1898, aged sixty-
nine years, and the mother died in August, 1901,
aged seventy-one years. Both parents were interred
in Eaby's cemetery in West Leacock township, hav-
ing long been members of the German Baptist
Church. They had these children born to them,
besides Mary, who is the wife of Jacob E. Hershey ;
Elizabeth, deceased wife of John Kochel; Sarah,
wife of Rife Myers, a farmer of Earl township;
Emma, wife of Frank Buckwalder, of Paradise
township ; Susan, wife of Elam Kreider, of West
Leacock township ; Lydia, wife of Martin Ebersole,
of Paradise township; Amanda, wife of Walter
Mays, of East Earl township ; and Adam, a farmer

"Jacob E. Hershey, general farmer, was born in Salisbury township, on his present farm, Sept 12, 1856, son of Rev. Jacob R. and Margaret (Eby) Hershey. He was reared to farm life and has followed agricultural pursuits exclusively, on this farm, all his active life with the exception of three years spent on a neighboring estate. Mr. Hershey like other members of his family is highly esteemed as a man of honor and reliability, and belongs to a family which is one of the most substantial in this part of Lancaster county. He has shown a deep interest in educational matters, and has served as school director for the past fifteen years. In politics he is a republican. With his family he belongs to and assist in supporting, the Mennonite Chruch."

Esbenshade: the following children: Clayton, with whom he lived; Herber, Sadsbury township; Milton, New Providence; J. Elwood, West Lancaster; Bertha, wife of Paul Myer, and Mabel, wife of John Hollinger Martin, both of this borough; Edna, wife of H.Clay Hershey, of Paradise township, and Margie, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Metzler and Mrs John Rohrer , both of Paradise, and forty-eight grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. He was a native of Lancaster township. In 1857 he was elected Register of Wills for one term, after which he served as Deputy Register for three successive terms. He was then elected a Justice of the Peace, having been continued in that office until the time of his death. He was buried in the Lancaster cemetery.
