His baptism was not recorded in the Roydon Parish Registers, so presumably he was born and baptized in his mother's native parish. He married Elizabeth Bennett of London on 13 January 1623/24 in EastHam, Essex, England. He died on 5 April 1665 in Roydon, Essex, England. He was buried on 7 April 1665 in Roydon, Essex, England, as "John Wood widdower and preacher of God's Word."
John was probably educated at Cambridge University, not far from Roydon, but there are too many John Woods in Venn's Alumni Cantabrigienses to identify him. He was ordained to the ministry, and as a Puritan was ejected from his living either in 1660 or 1662. A. G. Matthews, Calamy Revised, 1934, p. 541 mentions a John Wood, Rector of Barnardiston, Suffolk, who was ejected from that living in 1662,but again it is not possible to identify him as this John Wood.
