Biography

Bathsheba Brush was born on 5 December 1722 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.1 She and Nehemiah Brush were married on 26 January 1741 in First Church, Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, Reverend Ebenezer Prime officiating-2nd cousins.1 She died on 14 January 1803, at age 80, in Delhi, Delaware County, New York (now Bovina.)1 She was buried in Brush Cemetery, Bovina Center, Delaware County, New York.

Bathsheba's husband died in 1786, and in his will he stipulated that Alexander should take care of his mother and she should live with him, so she probably moved to Delhi with some of her children, including daughter Bathsheba, (who had married Jacob Bailey in 1775), around 1794. She died in Delhi in 1803.

Biography

Bathsheba Brush was born about 1754 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.1 She and Jacob Bailey were married on 5 February 1775 in Smithtown, Suffolk County, New York, Jacob and Bathsheba are married.2 She died.
Her married name was Bathsheba Bailey. Bathsheba....

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia......
Her name, which perhaps means "daughter of the oath", is in I Chronicles 3:5 spelled "Bath-shua", the form becomes merely a variant reading of "Bath-sheba".
---------------------------------
Bathsheba Brush b:1754 had a brother, Alexander Brush. Also known as Elexander Brush. Alexander moved In 1794, just four years after Elisha Maynard, first settled the area, to the town now known as Bovina, New York. So Batheba probably moved there with her, widowed mother, Bathsheba Brush shortly after 1794. Her mother died in Delhi in1803.

Alexander Brush came from Long Island and settled on the site of the present Bovina Center. He cleared brush from an area that is now the home of Tim McIntosh and purchased about 400 acres of land, including the present site of the hamlet of Bovina Center. Parts of this land he later sold to new settlers. In 1796, he erected the first grist mill in Bovina at the site of the current Town Garage. Brush also was the local preacher for the Methodist Society. In later life he became blind and crippled, but continued to preach - often from a rocking chair. For nearly a half century after his death Bovina was called "Brushland" in his honor. Mr. Brush's friend and nearest neighbor was James Bogardus. His home was on the site of the Parsons residence, next to the current United Presbyterian Church. He cleared and owned a large piece of land at the northern end of the village. For many years, Brush and Bogardus existed here in real pioneer fashion.
