HMG's inquiry (paraphrased)

2:John, married Hannah Brush
3: Freelove, married William Teed
4: Phebe, married Amos Woolsey
5: Doshea, married Benjamin Barlow
6: Polly, married Aaron Gregory
7: Nancy, married John Briggs
—H. M. G.

Source: Daughters of the American Revolution magazine
Published:1903, Volumes 23-24, an inquiry, page 151.

It wasn't too difficulty to attribute the list to Helen Martha Gregory, a descendant of Jacob and Bathsheba Bailey through Aaron Gregory. In the inquiry there are about eleven assertions, and though we may never be able to prove Jacob Bailey furnished leather for the soldiers, all of the rest of the statements have proven true. Except for a couple of partial first names, it has proven 100% accurate! Further since Jacob and Bathsheba had, in addition to the one son, six daughters whose ancestral pedigree was lost to their descendants because of losing their maiden name, it has filled in a huge gap in the genealogical record!

Who is Helen Gregory? How did she learn this? Helen Martha Gregory (1859 -1927) (Find A Grave Memorial # 12784421), is the daughter of James Orlando Gregory and great granddaughter of Jacob Bailey. Helen was a College Professor and High School History Teacher for many years and a noted member of the DAR. In fact she was a trained historian and avid genealogist who was researching well before 1903. Her accuracy, is undeniable, as all of the seven children are proven independently, with the correct spouses and descendants.
