(e) Hitherto the existence of this Simon seems to have bee n unknown; his father Simon, Count of Evreux, has been rega rded as the husband of Amice of Leicester and father (inste ad of grandfather) ofSimon the Albigensian crusader.

(c) This Guy was Seignuer de la Ferte-Alais in the Gatinais . . . He went with Phillip Augustus on the third crusade i n 1191, and is said to have m. 1stly, in the Holy Lands, i n 1202, Helwise d'Ybelin, dame of Sidon. He was slain befor e Vareilles, 31 Jan 1228.

Th e value of this charter on this point was apparently challe nged by James Wilson in his *Register of StBees* (1915) . I am in no position to comment further on the point at is sue here.
