Rev. J. W. Willis pastor of the U. B. a Church of this city was called away last Saturday to preach the funeral of perhaps the oldest woman in the state, at Bristol, Perry Co. Ohio, as seen by the following:
Catherine Cavinee (née Valentine) was born in Pennsylvania, September 14, 1796 and died at Bristol, Ohio August 8, 1901, aged 104 years, 10 months and 24 days. She was married to Jacob Cavinee in 1820, emigrated to Ohio in 1827 and was the mother of 13 children, 8 girls and 5 boys. Her husband died November 14, 1862. One son and three daughters preceded her to the spirit world. Grandma Cavinee at her death was the ancestor of 13 children, 78 grandchildren, 279 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren, in all 379 descendants. She was a devout Christian for more than 75 years, being a member of the U. B. Church at Bristol where she died. She retained her mind exceedingly well except her memory in regard to occurrences of the few latter years. Rev. Willis had been her spiritual advisor for ten years and she had arranged several years ago that he should preach her funeral. "On June 12, 1699 the town of Stratford did grant liberty yo Daniel Beardsly, Jr. to erect and set up a barn upon the Common land southeast from his home, and to fence in a cow yard not to exceed30 rods of land in all, to be staked out by two of ye selectmen at least, the said Beardslee Paying the charges thereof."

Daniel first lived in Stratford and later in Stratfield.

Since Daniel and Rebecca had a child baptized July 23, 1704 and since Danile was married August 10, 1704, we have reason to assume that his second marriage took place soon after the death of his first wife. Since her death left him with four or five small children, the eldest of whom was not yet eight years of age, it is not surprising that he felt the need for a mother for them and a housekeeper for his home!

Danile's will was proved February 7, 1737/8. The inventory indicated a value of 1000 pounds, and much had already been distributed to his children.
