Nicholas Bailey was born in 1622 in St, Peter Parish, Mancrofts, England. He died about 1694, at age ~72, in Westchester County, New York.

Nicholas Bailey came to America from England. He was a magistrate and served as a Deputy to the General Court in Hartford, Connecticut in 1663. The name is often seen as Bayle Bayel Bailey.

Nichols Bailey and wife Margaret Alexander, lived in New Haven, Connecticut, until they were ordered out. Magaret was accused of witchcraft. From there they moved to Rye, Westchester Co.,NY.

The charge of wichcraft was very serious as, from the Colonial records and according to State historian Walt Woodward, Connecticut and New Haven Colonies did not hesitate to prosecute accused witches. Between 1647 and 1655, "every single person tried and found guilty of witchcraft was executed." In a 21 year period in the colonies of Connecticut (1647 to 1668), it is believed that at least 29people were indicted for witchcraft and 11 were condemned and put to death.

Margaret Alexander Bailey was aquitted, but she and Nicholas Bailey were bannished from the New Haven Community and moved to Rye, Westchester County, New York, some fifty miles by land away, (at the time Rye was still in the Connecticut State) .
