So, all of Obadiah's son's fought, and also one of his grandsons...
"Elija Beardsley (1760-1826), Private in Col. Herman Swift's 7th Connecticut Regiment in Revolutionary War. "A Boston Tea Party Indian." - a plaque, found on Elijah Beardsley's grave. (this is likely not correct, as he is not listed as one of the Tea Party Indians)
But that was one fighting family! From Gary Weyandt, October 1999--------------------------------------------------------He moved to New Fairfield where he came into possession of certain lands May 16, 1746.The Colonial Record (Volume 9, Page 301) says: "May, 1748 Obadiah Beardslee, of the South Society of New Fairfield, agent for said society, presented a memorial to the Assembly, praying for a tax to be laid on the divided unimproved lands in said Parish. A tax of sixpence old tenor, granted."He was very prominent in church affairs, a Deacon for thirteen years, 1769 to 1782. In connection with sixteen others, he presented a remonstrance to the Assembly against the unorthodox preaching of their Pastor, the Rev. James Taylor. Seven of these remonstrants were Beardsley's, viz: Obadiah, Nehemiah, Gideon, Josiah, Phineas and two Johns. He died in 1806, his body was found in the woods, where he had gone to trap game.Danbury Probate Records state that Nehemiah Beardsley was appointed administrator of Obaadiah's estate on December 13, 1806. Obadiah Beardsley had person sources.
