His parents were Captain Phineas Beardsley (brother to Benajah) and Ruth Fairchild. He married Sarah Sally Hubbard, who was born 1763 and died 1823. They married in 1780 in New Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut. Elijah and Sarah had fourteen children.**
Elijah Beardsley moved and settled by 1796, in part of Delhi that is now included in Bovina. As early as 1798, Elijah is a noted property owner in Delaware county, with a 20X16 log house situated on 120 acres, in the mountains. Elija also served as a Town Supervisor in 1803, 1804, 1805, 1807. In the 1810 Census for the Town of Delhi, Elija Beardsley was still living there. *
One of Elijah and Sally's children was Ezra Beardsley, (born 1781). Ezra came to Delhi, as a young man, with the family, and in 1803, married, Nancy Brush, born 1784. Nancy was Alexander Brush and Nancy Griffith's daughter and also a niece to Jacob Bailey's wife, Bathsheba Brush. In the 1810 Census for the Town of Delhi, Elija Beardsley was still living there. *
Note: Isaac Beardsley's book states Elijah moved to Delhi in October 1809 - obviously a mistake, maybe he meant From Delhi in Oct 1809?.
