Faulkner and Aid Appear for Trial Tuesday in L. A. The trial of Tod (Kid Mexico) Faulkner, onetime Signal Hill bingo baron, and his former busi- ness manager, Royce Bushong, on vote fraud charges will open Tues- day in Los Angeles Superior Court. Faulkner and Bushong, former deputy registrar of voters, were indicted by the county grand jury on charges of conspiring to violate the state election code. They are accused of ballot _ ir- regularities in the Nov. 4 election, at which Signal Hill voters out- lawed the "skill game" played in Faulkner's parlor on Orange Ave. The joint trial of the pair is expected to last at least a month. "It will take at least that long to listen to all the witnesses Dis- trict Attorney S. Ernest Roll says he will present." Defense Attorney C. Ransom Samuelson said. Roll said he would send 75 to 100 witnesses to the stand. The indictment charges that Bushong, while employed by Faulkner, accepted registrations for the election from persons liv- ing outside Signal Hill. Some the registrants listed Faulkner's home as their address, L the indictment charges.

Gambler Fined for Attempted Vote Fraud LOS ANGELES UP> - Todd Faulkner, 60, an ex-boxer and gambUng figure in nearby Signal Hill, was fhied $500 Thursday for attempted election fraud. Faulkner, also known as Kid Mexico, was placed on probation for three years by Superior Judge Charles W. Fricks. Faulkner had pleaded guilty to attempted violation of the elections code. The indictment accused Faulkner of false registration of votei^ prior to a Signal Hill election last November In which bingo-ti-pe gambling was an issue. Faulkner denied that he paid Royce Bushong, 25, a deputy registrar of voters, to give each "favorable" voter a $1 bribe. Bushong also was indicted but the charge against him was dropped. Faulkner once described himself as "self-employed at a yearly salary of $500,000." He lives in a $60,000 seaside home at Laguna Beach, and is reported to have extensive property holdings. Including two other homes.

The Bakersfield Californian from Bakersfield, California · Page 21. 'Master' Set Off Expose
EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the sixth In a series of articles exposing academic degree rackets.
This investigation of religious rackets was launched--and it certainly was unintentional--by Dr. Richard Hurst, also known as Royce Jay and G. G. Huhi. He is better known in Long Beach by his true name--Royce J. Bushong. Royce is the proud possessor of 10 academic degrees -- including six doctorates -- which he cheerfully admits are all phonies. One of his degrees is an M.D. With mischievous eye, he explains: "Master of Divinity."
THE GOOD - LOOKING, suave, smooth-talking fellow is president of four organizations: the Colorado Institute of Technology, Evergreen (Colo.) University, Golden State University and the Better Business Bureau of Hollywood. He carries the headquarters of each in his briefcase. Bushong is known in the Long Beach area as ths man who worked simultaneously as deputy registrar for the City of Signal Hill and as campaign manager for Tod (Kid Mexico) Faulkner, former S i g n a l Hill bingo baron, in the early 1950s. Investigations in 1952 claimed that Bushong's file (Continued Page A-3, Col. 4J

(Continued from Page A-l) of voter registration was remarkably inaccurate. with even some persons listed as living in places where there were no homes. He was indicted for conspiracy to violate election laws. But Bushong was acquitted.
WHEN I MET Bushong-he was introduced as Dr. Hurst--he asked that I expose the New Thought Science Church in Los Angeles. It seems that Royce and the head of the church had a falling-out and he believed an expose would topple the leader and bring Bushong back to power. He also told me that he had been working as an undercover agent for the state attorney general's office. The attorney general's office agreed that they knew Bushong. Deputy Atty. Gen. Elizabeth Miller said: "We've asked him to come in for questioning several times ': and he hasn't told us a thing." Working under her direction, I befriended Bushong and for the next several weeks. Bushong and I grew to be close companions.
BUSHONG, who claims he picked up a legitimate degree as a chiropractic in the South sometime ago, is one of the most sociable persons I have ever met. He is charming, gay, witty and despite some questions by the hearer--speaks out with a voice of authority on virtually any subject. When I met him, he was selling "sleep records." recordings that allegedly, impart knowledge to you while you sleep. He had no permanent address -- just drifted between the homes of friends. When I met him, he was broke. Bushong said there is much to be learned about some of the religious sects in Southern California. "I know of a guy in the Valley who is trying to peddle holy water," he told me. "There's another idiot who wanted to look okay when he ordained two gals in his church. So he rented a pope's uniform from a costume shop.
BUSHONG'S desire is to live like the rich, spend his time in the very best restaurants, hotels and nightclubs in Hollywood. Las Vegas and Miami Beach. He just has to be big. He asked me once to meet in the Brown Derby in Hollywood "and we'll have some breakfast before we go out to see the bishop of this church." At the appointed time, the waiter at the Brown Derby told me that persons could be served only after reservations had been made and that "there are no reservations for a Dr. Hurst." And of course, Bushong --Hurst--was not there. He was asleep at the home of a nearby friend. The attorney general's office agreed that I should investigate the New Thought Science Church. They also said that I should check Dr. Hurst.
FOR EXAMPLE, when I met him he told me that he was in Long Beach serving as "a consultant" at the convention of Alcoholics Anonymous." The attorney general's office said his driver's license was revoked because of drunkenness. What you have just read is certainly not what Dr. Hurst expected months ago when he launched the idea that started this series. I have been out of touch with him for some time. But, out of curiosity today as I am completing this article, I called a friend of his --in Hollywood, of course --and asked where Dr. Hurst was. His friend responded: ''1 don't know for sure. He didn't let me know exactly. But he's either in Colorado or Las Vegas.

Independent from Long Beach, California · Page 3. Found Royce's adoption papers in the back behind these "writing assignments, Grafton had saved and sent to me. I didn't realize I had these........seems his birth name was George Glenn Hull, case 8164 Mercer County, Ohio, born 26th Sept 1927. There's a paper which names the child's mother as Charlotte I. Hull and the father as Elmer Cummins. Royce was adopted at age 8 months. It says the child was first listed with the DEPT of health as George Glenn Cummins. However, on the adoption papers the name is George Glenn Hull.
I see here his death certificate June 22, 1988, LA, Calif. Says he place of death was Board and Care, 903 N. Edgemont, LA, Calif. and that Grafton had applied for this certificate at a cost of $12.00. On his death certificate, the father's name is listed as Joseph Bushong of Tennessee and lists Lorene as his mother. cause of death is some type of heart condition. Charles Farley of LA, Calif is listed as friend. AND behind all these papers are three calif driver's license. In 1987 he was living in Chatsworth, Calif. Never did look at these before.
OH, also there's a note by Grafton on the back of the affidavit as to his different names and name change so he could enter the Merchant Marines. But I don't remember much Grafton said about Royce' being the Merchant marines?

Find A Grave Memorial# 82185191. Alfred Morris, our subject, was born in Allen county, Ohio, October 1, 1862, He lived upon the home farm until he had attained the age of sixteen years, and received a good education in the schools of Columbus Grove, Before he had reached his majority his father engaged in contracting and building macadamized roads, making our subject his foreman and superintendent, in which position he developed an excellent business capacity and a general knowledge of affairs. Afterward, our subject entered a machine shop at Lima as an apprentice, but after six months it became apparent that his health would not permit of such occupation. He now engaged in the saw-mill business at Randolph, Mo., for one year, then in the ice business at Columbus Grove for one year. After this he purchased a farm and lived thereon for four years, and after this engaged in the saw-mill business at Rimer, Ohio, for a similar length of time. In 1892 he came to Continental, .where he has since done an extensive business. His plant is valued at $3, 300, and besides, he owns various pieces of village property. Connected with his business is the Nickle Plate stock yard, which he controls and operates, and he also deals extensively in coal. He has made the major portion of his possessions himself by energetic and honorable business methods. In politics he is a republican, and has held the office of city clerk, and is a member of the school board. He has officiated as superintendent of the Sabbath-school, is at present a teacher, and has aided most liberally in the erection of the United Brethren church at Continental, of which society he and his wife are members, as also they are of the Good Templars' lodge.
He was united in marriage, January 1, 1884, to Miss Maggie A. Billheimer, who was born in Putnam county, she being the daughter of Joseph and Loraine (Beardsley) Billheimer, who were early pioneers of the county and who lived to become leading agriculturists of the section. Mr. Billheimer was a strong republican, and both were prominent members of the United Brethren church. Four children have been born to our subject and his wife, they being, in order of birth, Joseph, Clarence A., Glaydus, and Homer. They form a happy circle and take great comfort in their home. Maggie A. Billheimer
