Ray C. Bledsoe, 87, of 815 Little Britain Road, Quarryville, died Sunday afternoon in Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community after a one-month illness. He had been a resident of the home for four months. He was the husband of Winnie Lawrence Bledsoe, also of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Greenville, Tennessee, he was a son of the late William and June Tarry Bledsoe. He was retired from the Interpace Pipe Company in Perryman, Maryland, where he was a cement finisher. He was a member of Wrightsdale Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, R. C. of Oxford, W. Eugene, of Lancaster and Robert G. of Quarryville; two daughters, Joyce Bushong and Dorothy, wife of Carl Minchoff, both of Quarryville; two stepsons, Thomas Clawson of Oxford and Roy Dean Clawson of Todd, North Carolina; 26 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Shirley passed unexpected on Dec. 4 in Mesa, AZ while wintering with her son Paul and daughter-in-law Susan of Gold Canyon, AZ.
She will be remembered by all for her work as a secretary at Harrington Elementary, Albion Jr. High, Albion Senior High, and with Albion College at Belmont Manor and in the college athletic department. She also volunteered for many years with the Hospital Service League.
She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.
Shirley was preceded by her husband of over 50 years, Robert, who passed in 2008; and infant daughter Marsha.
She is survived by her three sons Paul (Susan), of Gold Canyon, AZ, Brent of Jackson, and Mark of Albion; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial is being planned for the spring
