Biography

James Washington Banie was born on 23 February 1836 in Macon, Ohio. He and Dorinda Almina Beardsley were married on 28 July 1864 in Licking County, Ohio. He died on 24 December 1921, at age 85, in East Albany, Gentry County, Missouri. He was buried in Bulla Cemetery, Albany, Gentry County, Missouri.
James W "J. W." Banie

Birth: Feb. 23, 1836
Ohio, USA
Death: Dec. 24, 1921
Gentry County
Missouri, USA
James was raised and educated by his mother, (Mary?) McGrivey Banie as his father, George Banie, sister and brothers all died when he was fairly young. His father was born in Germany and his mother was born in Pennsylvania.
He enlisted in the Union Army on June 13, 1861. He was a private in Company B or the 3rd Regiment of the Ohio Infantry and he had attained the rank of sergeant when he was mustered out. He applied for a Civil War Pension May 16, 1889 from Missouri.
James first married Dorinda A. Beardsley on July 28, 1864 and they were the parents of nine children, six living at the time of James' death in 1921. Dorinda died in 1900 and James married Mrs. Elizabeth A. Armstrong (nee Seals) on February 27, 1902.
James and Dorinda must have moved from Ohio to Salem Township, Knox County, Illinois about 1869 as they are found there in the 1870 census and all their children are shown as born in Ohio, including the youngest son age 1. In 1871 they emigrated to a farm in Athens Township, east of Albany, in Gentry County, Missouri.
James died at his daughter Mrs. C. L. (Viola) Thompson's home in Albany, Missouri of heart trouble and was buried December 26th in Bulla Cemetery between his two wives. H.W. Bare & Son was the undertaker.
NOTE: His obituary states James was born in Mascon, Ohio. I cannot find this location and wonder if it was a typo for Mason, Ohio which is in Warren County or Macon which is in Brown County.
