CHARLES RUSH was b. 16 January 1733 in Idar, Birkenfeld, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, UK. He died in Cub Run, Rockingham County, Virginia, near MaGaheysville, in 1806. He m. [1] Anna Maria Elizabeth Suess in 1750 per the U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900. They had issue as follows:

1. John
2. Anna Elizabeth, married Matthias Lair
3. George, married (1) Mary Bushong; (2) widow Elizabeth Harry.
4. Elizabeth, married ? Hanger
5. Peter, married Barbara Hanger

The fact that Charles Rush married Anna Elizabeth Suess is shown by one of the preserved records of the Peaked Mountain Church, Magaheysville, Virginia. which shows her name as Anna Elizabeth and records her as "nee: Suess." These same records in other places show her name as Maria Elizabeth. But the fact that the first girl child or the couple was named Anna Elizabeth (Annlise) inclines Mr. Charles Andrew Rush the author of the "Rush Memoirs" to believe that Anna Elizabeth is the correct name. In the will of Charles Rush written prior to his death in 1806, he refers to his wife only as Elizabeth. She survived his death.

The birth date of Charles Rush was first based primarily on the fact that his first child Johannes Risch [John Rush] was born in 1753 and it is assumed that he was at least 20 years of age at the time. Later on in research overseas source records proved his birth date to be 16 January 1725 [Source Information: Yates Publishing. U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900] The date of his death is learned from the recording of his will which is on file, partially destroyed by fire, in the Rockingham County Court House, Harrisonburg, Virginia.


Before the time of his residence in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, near Magaheysville, nothing AUTHENTIC is known of the life of Charles Rush so far other than his arrival on the ship NEPTUNE which arrived in Virginia from Rotterdam on 25 October 1746 with the Captain of the ship being Thomas Wickinson. This was found in the Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s.

A Lutheran record of Christ Church, Hamilton Township, Monroe County, PA, shows the baptism 11 Oct 1819, of Carl, son of George and Magdalena Rush.

The Assessment Roll for Warwick Township, Lancaster County, PA for 1759, shows John Rush, owner of 400 acres of land and Balser Sees, owner of 151 acres.

There are numerous mentions in the early Lancaster County records of the Suess, or Sees, family. Balthaser Suess was a member of the Brickersville Lutheran Church, Warwick Township, Lancaster County, in 1730 and records contain other names of the same family in later years.
