another Gilliland descendant, who sent me several Family Group Sheets. She
did not include any documentation.

Her records show that Daniel Jones was born Jan. 11, 1792 in New Brunswick,
Middlesex Co., NJ and died July 20, 1868 in Meigs County. She shows two
wives for him: Miss Dickison and Elizabeth Havens.

Her records also show that Reuben married twice: Lucy Frost and Margaret
Sayre Pullins. Reuben was born Aug 22, 1797 in New Brunswick and died April
30, 1888 in Meigs County, according to her information. There is an obit
for a Reuben who was born in 1825 and died 1898 in Volume I of our obit
books, but this appears to be Reuben's son by his first wife. According to
a long story in Volume 1 of the Meigs County Histories published by the
Meigs Co. Hist. and Gen Societies and attributed to Alanson Gilliland, a
brother to Reuben, there were 7 children by the first marriage and 6 by the
second. Some of the early history written in this story seems to be
incorrect according to some other researchers. Enumerated 2nd Oct 1850

John Gilliland, III, was born in 1700 in New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey. He died on 27 May 1769, at age ~69, in Cranbury, Middlesex County, New Jersey.

The book "Historical Collections of Brown County" (Ohio) relates a family of
Gillilands arriving in Chester County from Ireland in 1730. Chester County
land records show a loan made by John Gilleylan, merchant, of Philadelphia,
to James Russell of Upper Providence, Chester County, in 1740, with land as
security. When Russell defaulted, John received the land. Land records for
1752 mention a John Gilleylen of Philadelphia, and his wife Hester. A book
called "The Loving Gillilands" states that John Gilliland was born in 1706
in County Antrim and died in 1780 in Chester County. His wife was Hester
Romar. Children of John Gillelan were baptized at First Presbyterian Church,
Philadelphia, as follows: William (Sept. 15, 1843), Susanna (October 3,
1744), Esther (December 31, 1745). There is also a Jacob Gillilen, baptized

I have three different reports from three different researchers about Robert Jackson Gilliland. He apparently was born about 1750, probably in Chester County, PA, and seems to have been a physician. His father was reportedly John Gilliland, b. about 1706 in County Antrim and reportedly died in 1790 in Chester County. However, Chester County records show TWO John Gillilands died in 1790:

Apparently neither left a will.
May 29, 1751, in the Dutch Reformed Church, Northampton Township, Bucks
County, son of John Gillilen and Hester Roome Gillilen.

Agnes ("Craig") Craige was born in Scotland. She died in 1720 in Pennsylvania, Somerset, Pennsylvania.
