Richard Fitz Roy (natural son of King John), married Rohese, d. 1264/5, daughter of Fulbert of Dover. [Ancestral Roots]

Rose, daughter and heiress of Robert of Dover. [Burke's Peerage]

Note: Rohesia's father could be called Robert, although Ancestral Roots named him Fulbert in two different lines.

Note: CP XIV:87 corrects CP II:127 in renaming her "Rose, daughter of Foubert de Douvres" from her older name "Rohese, daughter of Robert de Dover". This apparently is her latest name. But then CP VIII:518, as corrected by XIV:468, names her "Royce, daughter of Robert de Douvres" (sounds like a Rolls!). Rose/Rohese/Royce? 1 _UID 50D0524B-5ACD-4CE1-AFBA-C7FCA86D82EA. Baldwin Wake; feudal Lord of Bourne; apparently imprisoned by King John 1207; pardoned by 1210 and regranted his English lands, retaining also his Guernsey ones but losing his Norman ones (his effortsto retain which by currying favour with the French probably occasioning his quarrel with John) following the overrunning of John's territory in Normandy by the French 1206; married Isabel (died in orafter 1224), eventual coheiress of estates that included the Manor of Blisworth, Northants which remained with the Wakes till Henry VIII's reign, widow of Foubert de Douvres and daughter of William Briwere, Sheriff of Bucks, Berks, Derbys, Devon, Nottingham and Oxon, and was allegedly killed by a crossbow bolt before 20 July 1213 while besieging a castle in Gascony. [Burke's Peerage]

---------------------------------------

BALDWIN WAKE, son and heir, made fine in 1201, together with his grandfather William du Hommet, for possession of his lands in England and Normandy, promising not to marry without the King's consent. In August 1204 he was allowed to have his English lands if he gave 4 hostages to Crown representatives; but in 1207 he came into conflict with the King, being forced to choose between England and Normandy. His lands were seized in March 1206/7 and he was ordered to leave the realm, but he seems to have been imprisoned in June following. It is not known when he was restored to royal favour but at Michaelmas 1210 he appears among the witnesses of a charter.

He married Isabel, widow of Foubert DE DOUVRES (a), daughter of William BRIWERRE, by his wife Beatrice. He died before 20 July 1213. Isabel was living, 1224, but died before 10 June 1233. [Complete Peerage XII/2:297-8, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

Marjorie, widow 1st of William de la Ferte, d. 1216, 2nd of Eudes de Dammartin, d. 1225, daughter and eventual coheir of William de Briwere, the elder, d. 1226, lord of Horsley, co. Derby. Geoffrey and Marjorie were divorced. She was living 1233, dead 1237. [Magna Charta Sureties]

----------------

He [Geoffrey de Say] married, 2ndly, Margery, widow of [i] . . . DE LA FERTÉ, (ii) Eudes DE DAMMARTIN (died 1225), sister and coheir of William BRIWERRE, by whom he was divorced. He died in 1230, in Poitou, shortly before 26 August, [? 19 August] and was buried at the Hospital of St. Mary, Dover, to which he had given his manor of Coldred with his body. [Complete Peerage XI:468-70, XIV:571, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

Note: Carolyn CC, in her post to SGM, has Margaret born in 1172 to a 1st wife of William de Briwere, who she says is Joan de Vernon. But she has William b. 1178 & Joan b. 1149 (doesn't make sense).I think that she is referring to William de Briwere's son William who is said to have married Joan de Vernon (who would have been born much later than 1149, say 1180). However, William certainly could have had a wife prior to Beatrice, and Marjorie/Margaret could well have been a daughter by the 1st wife. 1 _UID CF1F0A71-CD28-4CDC-A20B-AC9EA1A6992F. At this point the history both of the manor and of the family of Stourton becomes obscure. The pedigree gives Ralph two sons, Eudes (who is said to have d. young) and William, whose son John, according to the "History of the Noble House of Stourton", was sheriff in 1377; and this may be correct. [Complete Peerage XII/1:297]

---------------------

John de Stourton (h), 1st son and heir. From 1355 to 1378 he was in commissions for Somerset. In 1374 he founded a chantry for himself, his wife and his parents (j). From 1377 to 1379 he was escheator for Somerset and Dorset. In 1380 he was licenced to acquire land in Preston Plucknett. He m. 1stly Lettice (m); and 2ndly Alice, who survived him. The date and place of his death are unknown. [Complete Peerage XII/1:300]

(h) He is described by his younger son John Stourton of Preston Plucknett as "sometimes Lord of Stourton".

(j) See note "f" above, which is: (f) Where it is set out an impeximus and confirmation by the Dean and Chapter of Wells of an appropriation made 18 Mar 1374 of a chantry for the souls of John de Stourton and Alice is wife, William de Stourton and Joan his wife (both deceased, the parents of John), his brethren and sisters, and Lettice and Alice his wives.

(m) See note "f" above. She was probably the mother of his elder son William, who is described in the reference given in preceding note as William son of John, not of John and Alice.

---------------------

Note: The approximate birth of John was definitely bef. 1334, because he was of age and in commissions by 1355. His eldest son William, heir of Stourton, was active on various commissions by "1382" (ie. of age in 1382 so he was b. bef 1361), "d. 18 Sep 1413", and didn't marry until "bef. 1398", his son & heir being "b. abt 1399". The items in quotes are Complete Peerage dates. Of course he could have married well before 1398. William refused to take the position of Speaker of the House of Commons because he was infirm in 1413, I think he could have been 50 or more then. 1 _UID 417C2A62-7010-4CD7-9C8A-FBBBC3687B17.
