NORTHPORT Elaine K. Ofcarcik Boschung, age 86, of Northport, died March 14, 2009, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Father Jerry Deasy officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viktoria Ofcarcik, Holyoke of Mass., granddaughter, Jennifer Boschung of Tuscaloosa and a brother, and three sisters of Holyoke, Mass.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Herbert T. Boschung, Jr. of Northport; daughter, Mary Katherine Overstreet (Larry) of Tuscaloosa; sons, John H. Boschung (Georganne) of Cookeville, Tenn., Paul E. Boschung (Milla) of Tuscaloosa, and Ralph D. Boschung (Marilyn) Oakton, Va.; grandchildren, Sgt. Paul Erik Boschung, Jr. (Paula) of Homewood, Al, Sarah M. Boschung, of Oakton, Va., Ashley V. Duncan (Jason) of Tuscaloosa, and M. Dailey Boschung of Tuscaloosa; and great-grandchild, Ashtyn J. Duncan of Tuscaloosa.

Elaine Boschung was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, September 4, 1922, married Herbert T. Boschung Jr., November 24, 1945, and moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1946. Elaine was ardently devoted to her husband of 63 years, as well as her children, grandchildren, and great-grand child. Elaine enjoyed golf and the many friends with whom she shared the sport. She was an extraordinary person who touched the hearts of those who knew her in a loving and positive way. Her sense of humor is attested by her

family and many of her friends.

Elaine's parents immigrated from eastern Europe, her mother from Hungary and her father from Czechoslovakia. She grew up in a household of dual languages, which was to her advantage in seeking employment after finishing business school in Holyoke. In 1944 she met by chance her future husband (Herb "Bo" Boschung) while he was stationed at Westover Army Air Base where he was preparing for a tour of duty in the 15th Air Force in Italy. Upon returning home Elaine and Bo were married and moved to

Tuscaloosa where Bo enrolled in the University of Alabama in January 1946. Things were fast moving then; by 1949 Bo obtained a MS degree while Elaine cared for three little boys.

There were hard times and good times in those early years, but Elaine never complained and her smile and laughter carried us along. Through the years, she was "mom away from home" for many of her husband's students. She liked to think of them as her extended family. She will always remain in our memories and our love for her will always remain in our hearts. Her love for her family will strengthen our spirits in years to come. Elaine will be missed.

Pallbearers will be Mr. William Dobbs, Dr. Temd Deason, Dr. Thomas Rogers, Dr. Roger Sayers, Dr. William Darden and Dr. James Yarbrough.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Joab Thomas, Dr. James D. Williams, Dr. Hector Herima, Dr. Bernard Kahajade, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas McDermott, Mr. James Jenkins, Elaines extended family of graduate students, Alacare and Hospice nurses.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alacare Home Health and Hospice.
