A letter received by Mary Feller Wickes, New Market, Virginia, dated 9 Nov 1928.... IT's NOT BUSHONGS!

9 Nov 1928
Madame Mary B. Wickes,
Postmistress,
New Market, Virginia
"Madame, In answer to your letter which has been transmitted to us by the City Hall, we have made searches in the registers of the people in the 18th century including the people emigrated to Strasbourg. We have found there only one family responding almost to the name in question. Jean Buchain, a tailor, a native of Canton, Guienne (probably Condom), Department Gers. He acquired, the 5th of December 1722, the right cited for himself, his wife Barbe Foltz de Haguenau and four children by name, Michel, Andre, Pierre, & Barbe. The difference in orthography does not oppose itself to the identity of that family which you are searching, only the names of the children could cause some doubt. On the contrary, there is a possibility that the three boys mentioned are dead or did not emigrate with their parents, and that these, after their arrival at Strasbourg, had the three other children which you named.
Now I could, if you desire, make the researches necessary in the registers of baptisms from 1722 to 1731, and in this case, I would beg you to send us the amount to defray expenses, amounting to 50 francs, without guarantee, however, for positive results.
Please except Madam the expression of my distinguished sentiments.

By Israel Smith Clare
published 1892
THE ORIGINAL LANCASTER COUNTY.
Lancaster county was the first county of Penn-
sylvania formed after Philadelphia, Bucks and
Chester, the first three original counties within the
present limits of the State. For its first twenty
years (1729-1749) Lancaster county embraced a
vast region, including beside its present territory
all that part of Pennsylvania to the north-east,
north, north-west and west of the present limits of
the county. Its first reduction in size was made
by the erection of York county in 1749. It was
still further reduced in size by the formation of
Cumberland county in 1750, Berks county in 1752,
Northumberland county in 1772, and Dauphin
county in 1785. Lancaster county was finally
reduced to its present limits by the erection of
Lebanon county in 1813.
*The new county was so named by the Quaker John Wright,
after his native county, Lancaster, or Lancashire, in England.
He came from England in 1714 and settled at Chester. In 1726
he removed to the Susquehanna and settled on the site of
Columbia.

...the First Reformed Church might feasibly be claimed to have been the pioneer church in Lancaster.
...He was succeeded at Lancaster by the Rev. John Bartholomaus Rieger, who was pastor until 1743. Dr. Dubbs writes of him:
Rev. John Bartholomaus Rieger arrived in Philadelphia and took the oath of allegiance on September 21, 1731. He had been educated at Heidelberg and Basel. He was commissioned for the American work by the authorities of the Church of the Palatinate. He was an ordained minister. He was not, however, deeply interested in his commission. For several years he was pastor in Philadelphia and at Amwell, and in 1739 accepted the pastorate of the Reformed Church at Lancaster, where his brother Jacob Frederick had in the meantime settled as a physician.
According to his tombstone in the First Reformed Church graveyard at present, he was born in the Palatinate January 10, 1707 * * * He died March 11, 1769. His brother also lies buried in the rear of the church. Lancaster County is a popular tourist destination, due mostly to the many plain sect residents, known as the Amish or Pennsylvania Dutch.[5] The term Pennsylvania Dutch comes from the earlier use of Dutch to apply to all immigrants from Europe speaking German.[citation needed] They are the descendants of Germans (Deutsch) who immigrated in the 18th and 19th centuries for the freedom of religion offered by William Penn,[6] and were attracted by the rich soil and mild climate of the area.[7] Freedom from poverty and political uncertainty also was a major factor. Also attracted to promises of religious freedom, French Huguenots fleeing religious persecution with significant numbers of English, Welsh and Scotch-Irish [8] settled this area in 1710.[9]
Lancaster County was part of Chester County, Pennsylvania until May 10, 1729, when it became the fourth county in the state. While the Synod of South Holland was in session in Dorf, 1731, eight hundred exiled Palatines passed through the place to take ship at Rotterdam for America. They were visited by the whole Synod in a body and were furnished by them with provisions and medicines. After Christian exhortation, prayer and singing, they were dismissed with the assurance that they might rely upon the Church of Holland for support in their new abode. -- Ger. Ref. Almanac, p. 22 for 1865.)
Palatines imported in the ship Brittania, of London, Michael Franklyn, Master, from Rotterdam, last from Cowes. --Col. Rec III. 414. One hundred and four males above sixteen, thirty seven under sixteen; eighty-one females above sixteen, forty-five under sixteen -- in all two hundred and sixty-nine (editor.) Hans Boschung was listed below the above passage with many more on page 68. On page 70 below the end of the names was the following information: --Hans Boschung 39 years old, Barbara Boschung 37, Hans Philip Boschung 9, Anna Barbara Boschung 6, Christianna Boschung 3. Family notes a letter states the Bushong family lived in Strasbourg for 7 years prior to immigration in 1731
1724-1731 Strasbourg, Alsace, Lorraine, France per family letter....

History of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania: With Biographical Sketches of Many of its Pioneers and Prominent Men.
by: Franklin Ellis, Samuel Evans - 1883 - Lancaster County (Pa.)
Subject : The Bushong Family John Bushong, a French Huguenot, arrived in Philadelphia in September, 1731, and immediately came to Lancaster County and took up land near what is now Heller's Church. The Bushongs who reside in this township are the descendants of this John Bushong, who had a family of six boys--John, Philip, Peter, Henry, Jacob, and David--and three girls,--Mary, Barbara, and Elizabeth. In 1737 Mrs. John Bushong died, and Mr. Bushong married a second time. His son Peter emigrated to Virginia, where a prominent branch of this family still resides. Jacob went to what is now Berks County, and the noted bankers of Reading--the Bushongs--are the descendants of Jacob Bushong. David went to Illinois. Philip Bushong inherited his father's estate. John Bushong, son of Philip, is thegrandfather of Isaac Bushong, Esq., an influential citizen of this township and county. Amos Bushong, miller, of East Lampeter, and Dr. Bushong, New Holland, are of this family. Isaac Bushong, of thistownship, has in his possession a copy of the will written by John Bushong, bearing date June 5, 1749.
