ORDER BOOK
Andrew Bishong To Michael Lower Deed proved by James P. Preston and Philip
Barger two of the Witnesses thereto and Continued for further proof. There is a map of the survey showing this:
Signers in 19 Oct. 1798 included George Bushong.
Since the survey included the identical land holders in both 1781/1782 and
1798, I can only assume that Andrew purchased the land or was in ownership
of it in 1782. I tried to check the BLM, however, it doesn't seem to be
working, so will check back. He was not the original owner, rather he
purchased his 330 acres in three lots. (Judy Cassiday, 2013)
[I believe that the Bushong association is really in 1797 1nd 1798, vs earlier which was the warrant date and survey date pre-dating the 1797. This allow the Andrew born in 1773 to become old enough to own property]. 1782 land survey mentions Andrew land.
The survey in Montgomery Co. VA taken for Philip Barranger and John
Preston, was recorded on Montgomery County Deed Book D,
page 403, 425 Acres, the first survey done 8 Jan. 1782 in the name of
Barranger on a Land Office Treasury Warrant NO 7845 and dated the 2nd of
Nov. 1781, 400 acres assigned to him by Richard Madison,
the secnd entry
made the 4th day of Oct. 1797 in the name of Preston, again a Land Office
Treasury Warrant for 4000 acres No. 17.875, dated the 21st of July 1783
assigned to him by michael Ryan lying in Montgomery County on the Allegany
mountain and the head waters of Stroubles Creek a branch of New River and
the indian Run a branch of the North fork of the Roanoake. At the end of the
document which describes the land surveyed, is mention of "to between a whit
oak and chestnut on Gresham Deed line and with the same being Bushong's land
S 56 1/2 W 84 to the beginning.

appearing on prob. Deed Bk. D page 449 was made 8 Aug. 1783 and reads:

Elizabeth Bushong
Henry Bushong, son of Andrew Bushong and Elizabeth Calvert
Mr. Henry Bushong, an old and much respected citizen, residing a short
distance south of this place, died on Tuesday morning, after a confinement to
his bed of three years of a stroke of paralysis that rendered him helpless.
On Friday, last, he received the second stroke which terminated fatally, as
above mentioned. Mr. Bushong was born in this county in February 1807, and
spent all his long and useful life of eighty-one years in his native
county. Mr. Bushong was highly respected for the honesty of his nature and the
sterling integrity that marked his entire life. He was a consistant and
active member of the Reformed Church for many years. He died as he had lived,
that noblest work of God, an honest Christian man, and he leaves to live
after him a memory without a stain. His aged widow and a number of children
survive to mourn the loss of a tender parent and faithful companion. United States Census, 1880 for Henry Bushong

Virginia. In the 1860 Census Henry Bushong is enumerated in the Lantz Mill District with a Lantz Mill PO. his property value is $6000 personal property is $982.
In the 1870 Census, they were still in the neighborhood, in Johnson Township with an Edinburg P.O. property value is $4400 personal property is $718. In 1870. But the Lantz Mill was one of the first local mills to be rebuilt and by 1867 had been rebuilt. Yet Henry was in Edinburg.
So it appears that Henry Bushong had moved between 1860 and 1870. In support of that, his neighbors in 1870 are different than in 1860. The reduced personal and property value illustrates a loss, that perhaps was from his home being destroyed.
