Hi, I'm new to the forum. My GGGrandfather is John C. Bushong, born 18 Sept 1826 in Canton, Stark Co, OH. Died 2 June 1903 in southern Michigan. His children were Emanuel, John, Lafayette, Mary Ann, dob 17 Aug 1854, Lima, OH; dod 28 May 1921; buried in Athen, MI (she was my GGrandmother), and Mrs. Martin Prough (given name unknown). Does anyone have any information on this John Bushong?

showing the number of children and their age range and sexes. Would love to
have some discussion on the List about whether all of these children are
theirs and if so, what makes you believe that to be the case. Is there any
paperwork evidence? Can we reconcile all of the children with the various
census records, starting with the 1820? The only ones we definitely have a
slam dunk on are Andrew, Mary, Barbara, Elizabeth, John and Jonathan
although we are still pondering over two boys being named John and Jonathan in the
same family.

Boy, someone sure couldn't add! According to this accounting the
Administrator received $1491.02 and paid out $1477.68 which added up should be $1477.38.
On top of that there seems to be a $13.64 difference in the two figures in
the final account. These two figures should always balance each other out. Not
sure what happened to the difference as it is not shown.

In the name of the Benevolent Father of all, I John Bushong of Lake Tp
Stark County Ohio, do make and publish this my last will and testament.
First. It is my will that my just debts and all charges be paid out of my
estate.
Item 1st. I give and devise all the residue of my estate to Mary Frank my
daughter, to be to her and her heirs forever.
Item 2nd. I do hereby nominate and appoint George Frank and Leonard Raber
Executors of this my last will and testament, hereby authorizing and
empowering them to compromise, adjust, release and discharge in such manner as they
may deem proper, the debts and claims due me. I do also authorize and empower
them if it shall become necessary in order to pay my debts, to sell, by
private sale or in such manner upon such terms of credit or otherwise as they may
think proper, all or any part of my estate. I desire that no appraisement
and no sale of my personal property be made and that the Court of Probate direct
the omission of the same, in pursuance of the statute.
I do hereby revoke all former wills by me made.
In testimony hereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 22nd day of
January A. D. 1869.

Barbara Kreighbaum Bushong (1798 - 1864)*. So it is not surprising when someone attempts to place John Bushong,
husband of Barbara Kreighbaum, in the existing lineage of the Colonial
Immigrant Bushong family....

One person on the Bochong List, has stated..
"I have always said that John Bushong married to Barbara Kreighbaum is
the son of Jacob Bushong and Eve Bossert..."

But all the evidence has eliminated this possibility. John Bushong,
husband of Barbara Kreighbaum CAN NOT BE the son of Jacob Bushong
(1754-1830) and Eve Bossert.

Very simply, John Bushong husband of Kreighbaum was born in
Pennsylvania. Jacob and Eve Bossert Bushong were married IN VIRGINIA,
where their son, the other John, was born, and so were all of his
brothers and sisters.

The John Bushong who married Barbara Kreighbaum, is beyond any
reasonable doubt born in Pennsylvania...

John and Barbara Bushong declared they were born in Pennsylvania for the
1850 and 1860 Census and again in the 1870 Census, John again states he
was born in Pennsylvania.

They also had at least eleven children, and four who lived past 1880 and
could be found in the 1880 census, declared that their parents were from
Pennsylvania. One, Nancy, said they were born in Ohio, still not
Virginia, but she could have very well made a mistake, possibly due to
diminished mental capacity, as her 1900 death notice called her insane.

In addition, a 1911 book of Indiana history states John and Barbara were
from Pennsylvania....
"Jonathan Bushong, farmer, Van Buren Twp. was born in Stark County, OH
November 14, 1819, son of John and Barbara Bushong, natives of
Pennsylvania."

But Jacob Bushong, who was also born in Pennsylvania, left and was down
in Virginia as early as 1780, when on July 17th, he joined 2nd Virginia
Regiment, in Bedford County, Virginia. A little over three years later,
after he was discharged from the Army, he and Eve Bossert were married,
Jan 1 1784, in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Their first born child was,
John Bushong, (husband of Anna Stover), who was born there, in Virginia,
Oct 22 1784.

Further, their son, John married Anna Stover Bushong and they had at
least 11 children and all of those who were living for or could be found
in the 1880 Census, declared their parents were from Virginia.

Their son, Jacob (1806-1884) stated parents born in Virginia (1880 census)
Their daughter, Margaret (1814-1888)(married Stern) stated parents born
in Virginia (1880 census)
Their daughter, Elizabeth Anne (1817-1901)(married Archer) stated
parents born in Virginia (1880 census)
Their son, Joseph (1819-1901) stated parents born in Virginia (1880 census)
Their daughter, Eve Elizabeth (1821-1906)(married Bisher) stated parents
born in Virginia (1880 census)

All of them state their father and mother were from Virginia.

Additionally, the Bible Record of John and Anna Stover Bushong, states,
"John Bushong, A son of Jacob Bushong and Eve was born October the 22nd in
the year 1784". It's true, the reliability of this record has been
questioned by one person, because the statement for John's parents is
written and spelled differently. But this doesn't really impact its
credibility, because Bible records are often recorded over time. In
addition, for the descendant who wrote it, to be able to guess at Jacob
and Eve Bossert Bushong as ancestors is inconceivable. How would they
even know of them if they weren't related?

So, John Bushong, husband of Barbara Kreighbaum, is very likely a part of
the Immigrant Boschung Tree. John and Barbara have numerous living descendants charted, of which many are male. DNA analysis could eliminate them from the tree or tie them to it,
but in the end, can't say which of the two lines they're from, for that,
additional genealogy is required. We keep looking.
