Funeral services for Anna Mildred Bushong, year old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. C. G. Bushong of 623 Center street, will be held Wednesday at 10
o'clock at the family home.
The Rev. V. Hayes Miller, pastor of the South Side Church of Christ,
will officiate. The body will be accompanied by way of the Ohio Electric to
West Liberty, Ohio where interment will be made. The little one died last

FRANK ELWOOD PALMER, member of the firm of Palmer & Crawford, dealers in pine lumber at Columbus Grove, Ohio, was born in Monroe township, Allen county, July 3, 1863. He is a son of Thomas Palmer, deceased, whose parents were pioneers of Allen county. Thomas Palmer was a. native of Pennsylvania, was born near Harrisburg in 1821, and came to Allen county, Ohio, with his parents, while it was very new. He was married, in Monroe township, to Mary M. Stirlen, who was also born in Pennsylvania, and came to Putnam county with her parents, who settled about one mile east of Columbus Grove, in Putnam county, at an early date. The father of Mr. Palmer died in 1868. His widow was again married in 1872, becoming the wife of Joseph Bushong, of Hancock county, who is now residing on a farm in Monroe township, Allen county. To Thomas Palmer and wife five boys were born, viz: One who died in infancy; Joseph W., now a farmer and stock raiser of Van Wert county, Ohio; Samuel P. is a Presbyterian minister, and now residing at Oakland, Cal., where he has a charge; Frank E. (our subject), and Daniel R., now a farmer on the old home farm in Monroe township, Allen county.

Frank E. Palmer was reared on the home farm in Monroe township, Allen county, first. attended the district schools, and at the age of sixteen years went to Ada and attended the university at that place for two years. Returning home, he remained on the farm for two years, but, not being satisfied, in 1884 he went to Kansas, where he improved a claim of 160 acres in Meade county. In 1885 he went to No Man's land (now Oklahoma) and settled on the Beaver river, where he engaged in merchandising. In March, 1887, he was appointed postmaster at Beaver, Ind. Ter., and was the first postmaster commissioned in No Man's Land. His commission bears date March 4, 1887, signed by Postmaster-Gen. Vilas. At about the same time the citizens formed a temporary town and county government, and Mr. Palmer was chosen county clerk. In 1888 he returned to his old home and married an old school-mate. Mr. Palmer remained in the Indian territory until 1889, when he sold out his business and returned to Monroe township, Putnam county, Ohio, and farmed until 1893, when he engaged in his present business in Columbus Grove, succeeding Henry Arnold. In the same year the firm of Palmer & Crawford was formed by the admission of John M. Crawford as a full partner. Mr. Palmer has met with uniform success through life, and for a man of his age is comfortably situated. Beside his lumber interests he now owns a farm of fifty-three acres in Richland township, Allen county, and also real estate in Kansas and Oklahoma. Mr. Palmer is a member of the Masonic fraternity, being a member of Rufus Putnam lodge, No. 364, of Columbus Grove. In the fall of 1894 Mr. Palmer was appointed a member of the board.

DUNKIRK — Services for Everett F. Bushong, 91, of Dunkirk, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014 at Price Funeral Home, 123 N. Main St. Kenton, with Pastor Gregg King officiating. Burial will be in Dunkirk Cemetery with Military graveside rites by Amvets Post 1994. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014.
He died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 at his residence. He was born on Feb. 5, 1923 in Williamstown to the late Marion U. and M. Marie (Steinman) Bushong. On June 23, 1943, he married Donna Odean Smith and she preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 2010.
Surviving are three daughters: Sharon B. (Frank) Stieg of Winter Park, FL, Kay L. (Kenny) McAlpine of Dunkirk, and Lynette M. (Arne) Morris of Antelope Hills, CA, five grandchildren: Shannon, Megan, and Gretchen Stieg, Heather (Greg) Hanchuk, and Carson Morris, and two great-grandsons: Andrew and Nikolai.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue Bushong, two brothers: Lester E. and Harold J. Bushong, and three sisters: Catherine (Bushong) Leatherberry, Irene Bushong, and E. Lucille (Bushong) Eichhorn.
Everett retired from Rockwell after 20 years. Before that he was a tool and die maker, and he worked for Lennox and Oldaker.
He was an Army Veteran serving in WWII and a member of the Dunkirk VFW.
Everett’s hobbies included flowers, gardening, and camping at Sulfer Lake.

She was a daughter to Marion U. and M. Marie (Steinman) Bushong. In 1964, she married C. Gaylord Eichhorn, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are a brother, Everett, Dunkirk; and a stepdaughter, Gladys Whitmer, Kettering.

Deceased are two brothers; and two sisters.

She graduated from Dunkirk High School, and was a 1947 graduate of the Ohio Northern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education. She did post-graduate studies at the University of Colorado and Miami of Ohio. She taught school at the Wapakoneta City Schools for 17 years, and then at the Troy City Schools for 13 years. After retirement, she worked at the Ohio Northern University Heterick Memorial Library for a year. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Wapak. She was active in local state and national teacher's associations, church groups, official boards and commissions. She traveld in many foreign countries and most of the United States. Her recent hobbies included music and reading, both biographical and inspirational.

Funeral services are at First United Methodist Church, Wapak. with Pastors Mary Bushong and R.J. Davis, officiating.

DUNKIRK -- A funeral for Donna Odean (Smith) Bushong, 86, of Dunkirk, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at Price Funeral Home, Kenton. Burial will be in Dunkirk Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bushong died at 6:10 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
Odean was born on April 5, 1924 in Dola, Ohio to Carroll L. and Sadie (Farnum) Smith, and they are both deceased. She married Everett F. Bushong on June 23, 1943 in Riverside, California, and he survives in Dunkirk.
Also surviving are three daughters, Sharon (Frank) Stieg of Florida; Kay (Kenny) McAlpine of Dunkirk; and Lynn (Arne) Morris of California; a sister, Shirley (Donald) Reichenbach of Pandora; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death is a daughter, Karen Sue.
Odean had worked as a secretary in the Army Training CTR Post until 1944 when Everett went overseas. She moved back to Lima where she worked as a secretary for the chief metallurgist at Lima Ohio Steel Foundry. After WWII she moved to Citizen Bank & Loan Co. until 1948. She later became employed as a secretary at Hardin Northern School. In 1967, she quit there to become executive secretary to VP of Development at Ohio Northern University, retiring in 1987.
Odean was a 1942 graduate of Dola High School where she was the class salutatorian. She attended Northwestern School of Commerce; was a member of the Walnut Grove Church and had attended the Liberty Harbour Outreach.
Odean enjoyed her family, gardening, camping and bowling. She also enjoyed sewing, macrame and crocheting.
