Further evidence disproves her connection to the Gruwells: James Clinton Gruwell was born February 9, 1838, while Angeline was born April 25, 1838—proving she belonged to a different family. Examining Gruwell family records on Family Search reveals that Isaac and Ruth ultimately had five children, all accounted for to the grave—except for Angeline, who appears only in the 1850 Census. This is because Angeline wasn't a Gruwell; she was actually Angeline Bushong.

In the 1860 Census, Angeline lived with Delilah Bushong and declared her occupation was housekeeper. In 1850, she may have been employed as a maid or helping Ruth Gruwell care for her newborn, Sarah, which was common for children at the time. Angeline likely lived with the Gruwells for extended periods, as her home was in Perry Township was about six miles from Jefferson Township. Tragically, Sarah Gruwell passed away in August 1852. Angeline Bushong was enumerated on the census of 1850 in Perry, Logan County, Ohio. She was enumerated on the census of 1860 in Bokes Creek, Logan County, Ohio.
