J.T. "Jake" Bushong, age 87, of Lewisville, Texas passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Medical Center of Lewisville. He was born on February 16, 1918 in Ballinger, Texas to Reed and Hattie Roberts Bushong.


Jake married Billie Kiser on July 3, 1940 in Ballinger. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and member of the Eastern Star. Jake retired from Shell Pipeline in 1979 after 28 years of service and then worked in the Brownwood 4-H Center. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lewisville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Jake is survived by his wife, Bill of Lewisville; daughter, Linda Turman of Lewisville; grandchildren, Bill Turman and his wife, Linda; and Karen Mason and her husband, Geordie; great-grandchildren: Stephen Kelly, Caroline and Rachel Turman, Kennah, Morgan and Connor Mason; brother, Alvin Bushong of Odessa, Texas; sister, Mary Kurc of Gladewater; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. A memorial service followed at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lewisville. The family received friends on Monday, June 6, 2005 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. The family request memorial contributions be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, 2222 Welborn Street; Dallas, Texas 75219; or First Baptist Church, 1251 W. Valley Ridge Boulevard; Lewisville, Texas 75077.

The funeral of Fank Bushong an aged and eccentric character, took place Tuesday at his late home in Columbiana, with interment in Dunkard Cemetery north of that town. He had been living alone for several weeks; when his nephew, Amos Groner, and wife, of near this city, went to live with and care for him. The three were on their way to Mr. Bushong's home in the outskirts of Columbiana Sat. evening, when, in the darkness, the old gentleman fell over the side of a bridge and fractured his skull. He died of his injuries 24 hours later. Coroner D.J.Jones was notified and after an investigation of the circumstances, rendered a verdict of accidental death. The deceased is not thought to be possessed of much personal property besides the real estate, consisting of the homestead which he had occupied since the death of his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Benjamin Bushong, a few years ago. He never married. His age was in the neighborhood of 70 years. Among his surviving relatives are two sisters, Mrs Junius Groner and Mrs John Boyle, both of Columbiana,. "In the cemetery adjacent to the abandoned Churchill Christian church on
the Elkton-Signal road rest the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Barnes, Elkrun
Township pioneers. Both were born in 1800, Mr. Barnes having died 17 July
1873 when he was 73 years of age, his wife Sarah being 88 when her end came
on 18 March 1888.

At the foot of the hill from where this church and
cemetery stands was the old Chamberlain grist mill. The mill was powered by water
from Elk Run. The ruins of the dams which were used in the operation of
this mill can be found today along the banks of this stream. This mill was
operated by DANIEL BUSHONG who died 6 December 1909, for many years before
the turn of the 20th century. Mr. and Mrs. William McMillan now occupy the
stone house in which the operator of the mill resided when the industry was
running. The cemetery is maintained through a fund which was established by
Rev. S. S. McKown, a former pastor of the Churchill Church. The burial
ground was cleaned of underbrush and undergrowth about 3 years ago and today
stands out as one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Columbiana County,
Perhaps the oldest person buried in the Churchill burial grounds is Albert K.
Pike, the maternal grandfather of Albert P. Morris, manager of the
Columbiana County Motors Club. Mr. Morris was 96 years of age when he died in 1928.
His wife Esther passed away a year before when she was 88 years of age. The
youngest of several soldiers buried in this cemetery was Milton Freed, 18
year old son of Jacob and Rebecca Freed who died at Marysville,
Pennsylvania on 25 October 1861. A member of Company H, 115th Ohio Volunteer Infantry,
he was one of Columbiana's first causalities in the Civil War. Over his
grave was a circular stone under which was placed a photograph of the
deceased. This photograph was finally destroyed by the weather but the space which
it occupied is yet evident in the unusual marker."

CHARLES GUY BUSHONG, 58

Charles Guy Bushong, native of East Liberty, fatally shot himself
through the right temple Monday morning in the metal covered garage at the
home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cook in
Bellefontaine, where he was visiting. He is survived, in addition to three sisters
and one brother, by three children, Charles Francis Bushong, Lavona and
Claribel, all of Lima. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in a
