1859–1935. I have information on this Mary Bushong. She is my 3x great grandmother. She was born Oct 25 1824. In OH. Died in 1904 in NE.
She married Thomas Benton Grove and they had 9 children.
They lived in ohio/Iowa then eventually homesteaded in NE. They arrived in 1867 with their 9 children. They settled there near (Tecumseh or Elk Creek) NE, across the road from where my Dad Wayne Buethe Grove was born.

Thomas Benton and Mary Bushong Children were named Francis (died young around 22 yrs old of typhoid after reaching NE),
Emaline(retarded and lived at Green Gables home in Lincoln NE from 1904 until death in 1931), Francis (died young around 21 year old or so from Typhoid after reaching NE and helping to build a stone house for Thomas Benton and Mary Bushong), Sophia, Katie (one of these 2 married a Clodfelter), Saloma (Brott-sp? moved to Long Beach CA, Esther (Blystone) died of Typhoid young, Henry J (called Jayson), Lee, and TB (short for Thomas Benton Jr -my great grandfather).
A lot of these relatives are buried in Mt Zion cemetery in Tecumseh NE including Mary.

Christina Magdalene Grile was born on 20 June 1855 in Marion County, Ohio. She and Jacob P. Theurer were married. She and William Bushong were married on 18 July 1892 in Jay County, Indiana. She died on 8 January 1932, at age 76, in Portland, Jay County, Indiana. She was buried in Salamonia Cemetery, Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana.

Her married name was Christina Magdalene Bushong. Christina Magdalene Grile was also known as Christina. Her married name was Christina McFarland. William next married Mrs Christina M. Christena was married two other times after Jacob Theurer had died. She was married the 2nd time to William Bushong and the 3rd time to Archibald McFarland. There were no children born on these last 2 marriages.


Obituary-- Christina McFarland, 76, for the past 28 years a resident of Portland, died at 6:30 o'clock Friday morning at the home on East Votaw street. Death was caused by obstruction to the bowels, from which she had been ill since Wednesday morning.
Mrs McFarland was born June 20, 1855 in Marion County, Ohio being at the time of death 76 years, 6 months and 18 days of age. She came to Jay County when a small child.
The deceased had been married three times, First to Jacob Theurer, William Bushong and Arch McFarland, the latter dying February 28, 1926. Two sons, four brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Four children survive as follows: Mary, wife of Charles Zorn of Noble township; Harriet, wife of Ezra Smith of Madison township; Ella, wife of Charles Sommers of Salamonia; Augusta, wife of H. W. Lee, of Madison township. Two brothers and one sister, Jacob Grile of near Union City, Adam Grile of Portland and Rosa, wife of Frank Barger, of Noble township also survive.
The following step-children also survive; A. H. Bushong of Dayton, Ohio; John McFarland, Pike township; Mark McFarland, Madison; Itha McFarland, Pike; Mrs. Clara Ferguson, Ridgeville; Mrs. Lou Bennett of California.
Mrs. McFarland was a member of the Portland U. B. church. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Methodist church at Salamonia. Rev. J. H. Nall, pastor of the Portland U. B. church and Rev. H. G. Perry, pastor of the Salamonia Reformed church will officiate. Burial will be made at Salamonia.
There are 26 living grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Six grandchildren are deceased.

It is possible that this Jacob H. Bushong could be the son of Samuel
Bushong and wife Margaret as they had a Jacob H. Bushong listed with them in
census records. It is reported that their Jacob H. Bushong married a woman
named Elizabeth Magner and in a census record for them it shows a son named
Jesse F. There is a Jacob H. Bushong who was in a unit in Illinois during
the Civil War who died supposedly in Cincinnati, Ohio. In his pension the
wife Elizabeth states that there is a minor named Jessie F. Dickerson. The
Dickerson name is confusing since if this person was a minor then why that
last name and not Bushong? Unless it is a married girl but still under age.
This Jacob H. Bushong died 16 July 1862 which would certainly fit with the
Estate paper we presented.
