The sentinel in George L. Bushong's store on Indiana Avenue, Indianapolis, is a bantam rooster. The storeroom is something in the shape of an L, opening on two streets, anu an unobstructed view of the whole place is not possible. But the rooster is watchful, and no one, not even a dog, can enter either door without the chicken signaling an alarm.

*vetting - are these all the same Jackson? My 3rd great grandmother was Sarah Bushong Hancher, born 1823 died 1859. Her father was George Bushong who was born in Virginia and died in Tennessee, 1793 to 1852. My biggest interest is Jackson Decatur Bushong, my 3rd great uncle. I inhereted the sword he carried when he was captain of the 29th Tennessee Infantry. I know a little about him, just was hoping there was more information to be obtained. I would love to have photos of any of my ancestors on the Bushong side. I have a quite a bit of information on George Bushong, notably his iron works in Bristol. Anything you could provide would be of interest.
Thank you,
