John F. Bushey, 91, Arendtsville. died suddenly at his home Tuesday evening at 9 o'clock from a heart attack. He had been in his usual health Tuesday and had been about town. After he had eaten supper he complained of feeling ill and died before a physician arrived.
He was the last survivor of the family of Nicholas and Hester Mickley) Bushey. The deceased had been very active in Trinity Lutheran church. Arendtsville, of which he was life-long member, serving as a superintendent of the Sunday school or 35 years and as choir leader for a number of years. He conducted singing classes in that community for a number of years.
Mr. Bushey was a former Adams county commissioner and Arendtsville school director. He was a charter member and acting secretary of the Grecnmount cemetery association of Arendtsville and a charter member of the Arendtsville. lodge of Knights of Pythias.
He was twice married. His first wife, the former Clara Bittinger. died many years ago.
Surviving are his widow. Mrs. Ellen Cooley Wagner Bushey; two sons, J. Blane Bushey, Blgiervillle R2 and Edwin R. Bushey. Biglerville R. 1; one daughter, Mrs. R. E. Knouse, Biglerville R. 1; 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services from the late home Saturday morning at 10 o'clock with further services at the Trinity Lutheran church. Arendtsville, conducted by the Rev. George H. Berkheimer.
Interment In Greenmount cemetery, Arendtsville. Friends may call at the late home Friday evening fiom 7 to 9 o'clock

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arendtsville, the Men's Bible Class, served as superintendent of the Sunday School for over 40 years, was a member of the church council for 16 years and taught a Sunday School class.

He retired in 1950 after teaching 46 years in Adams County mostly in the Menallen Township area. A former county commissioner, he served two years of the late Clark Fetters' term, and was reelected for a full four year term, serving from 1953 to 1959.

He was in charge of the school exhibits at the South Mountain Fair for 20 years. He was a member of the Upper Adams Lions Club and the Arendtsville Fire Company.

Born April 9, 1919, in Franklin Township, Adams County, the son of the late J. Blaine and Anna Deardorff Bushey, he was a lifelong fruit grower in the Arendtsville area.

Mr. Bushey was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Arendtsville, serving as consistory member, church treasurer, choir member, and Sunday school teacher. He was a charter member of the Arendtsville Lions Club, former member of the Arendtsville Planning Commission and Gettysburg Area School Board, and a life member of Arendtsville Fire Co.

Mr. Bushey is survived by his wife of 61 years, Louise Kime Bushey; four sons, Larry Bushey and his wife Joan of Biglerville, Dean Bushey and his wife Marilyn of Raleigh, N.C., Roger Bushey and his wife Cindy of Littlestown, Wayne Bushey and his wife Valerie of Gardners; nine grandchildren, Eric Bushey, Morgan Bushey, Erin Bushey, Jared Bushey, Ashley Bushey, Steven Bushey, Ryan Bushey, Brandon Bushey, Mark Bushey; two great-grandchildren with a third on the way; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bushey was predeceased by four brothers, J. Charles Bushey, Warren C. Bushey, John L. Bushey and Norman F. Bushey, and a sister, Mildred Gordon.

J. Charles Bushey, of Arendtsville, departed this life April 14.

He was the son of the late J. Blaine and Anna (Deardorff) Bushey.

A 1939 graduate of the Arendtsville Vocational School and 1943 graduate of Shippensburg State College, Mr. Bushey was a veteran of WWII, serving as a Lt. JG with the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. After returning from the war, he was employed by the Baltzley Family Fruit Farms in Adams County until they were acquired by the C.H. Musselman Co. in 1949. He continued his education at Western Maryland College in 1950 with graduate work in 1951 and went to work for the Musselman Co. in Biglerville as a Cost Accountant and was promoted through the years to Comptroller and Vice President. In 1981 Knouse Foods Corp. purchased the Musselman Co., where Mr. Bushey worked until his retirement in 1985.

He was active in the Community serving on the Upper Admas School Board, Arendtsville Water & Sewer Authority, Greenmount Cemetery Board and was the Arendtsville Tax Collector from 1958-1974. Mr. Bushey was a member of Untied Methodist Church in Gettysburg and was a former member and councilman with the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arendtsville. Through out his life he loved to play and later watch baseball.

He was the husband of Geri (Baltzley) Bushey, with whom he was married 64 years and surviving, in addition to her, he is survived by daughter, Ann C. Harvey and husband, Gordan of Gettysburg; son, Chris S. Bushey and wife, Kathy of Carlisle; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Blaine D. Bushey of Arendtsville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred C. Gordan; and three brothers, John L., Warren C., and Norman F. Bushey.
