BLOOD POISONING AFTER AN OPERATION KILLS CHARLES BUSHONG

ELKHART, Indiana, 1 January -- Charles Bushong, a Lake Shore railroad brakeman, who suffered a broken arm three weeks ago at Englewood, Illinois, resulting in an amputation at the shoulder, is dead in the Union hospital, Englewood, from an abscess on the left hip. The abscess was caused by blood poisoning, resulting from the amputation. The remains were brought here for interment.

W. Lee Bushong was born in January 1881 in Tennessee. He died before 1930.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Vermont Methodist Church . The Rev. Ogleva Street , the Rev. Dale Bittinger and the Rev. Frank Mason will conduct the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jack Depew, Kenneth Terry, L. T. Godsey, Roscoe Elam , Glenn Hobbs and Gladstone Hobbs .

The body was taken to the residence at 1 p.m. Thursday from Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Addie Lane, 79, of 554 Dale St. died in Holston Valley Community
Hospital at 1:20 a.m. Saturday after a lengthy illness.

Widow of Worley Lane , she was a native of Sullivan County and a member
of Vermont Methodist Church .
She is survived by a son, Harold Lane , and a daughter, Mrs. N. R. Alvis
both of Kingsport ; brothers, Arch Bushong, Kingsport , and Ross Bushong,
Bristol ; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Vermont Methodist
Church by Rev. John R. Manney and Rev. Ogleva Street . Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church one hour before the funeral from
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral
home from 7 to 9 this evening.

Archie H. Bushong was born in February 1891 in Tennessee. He and Dora J. Devault were married on 31 May 1921 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. He died in 1971, at age ~80. He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, Sullivan County, Tennessee.

The body of former Army Pvt Ronald Dan Bushong will be returned to Kingsport late Wednesday afternoon for burial. Pvt Bushong, 22 formerly of Chestnut St., died in a crash Dec 30 in California. Born in Kingsport, he had been in Pasadena for five months He was stationed at Fort Ord, Calif. Survivors include his wife Christine Bradley Bushong of Kingsport, but now living in Pasadena Calif; his mother Mrs Lena Green of Florida; a half sister, Miss Patricia Green of Florida; and his grandmother, Mrs Lucy Bushong of Chestnut St. Arrangements will be announced later by Dobson Funeral Home. Charles Edward Bushong, 76, of Newport died April 29, 2003 in Arcadia, Calif., of congestive heart failure. (Lincoln Co.)He was born Aug. 24, 1927 in Kingsport, Tenn., to Lucy and Walter Lafayette Bushong.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 3, 1944 and served during World War II in Pearl Harbor and the South Pacific, where his ship was destroyed by the Japanese and he was rescued at sea. He was a past commander of American Legion Post No. 280, which he managed for 25 years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1053. He had homes in Newport, Coos Bay, and in California. He enjoyed fishing in Oregon and spending time on his boat and with his dog, Max.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Bryan Bushong; daughters and son-in-law, Betty Ann Bushong of Pasadena, Calif. and Debra and Mickey Zivanovic of Monrovia, Calif.; a son, Charles Bushong Jr. of West Covinia, Calif.; grandchildren, John Bushong of Raleigh, N.C., Laura Ann Bushong of Altidena, Calif., Danielle Bushong Lane of Kingsport, Tenn., Daniel Zivanovic and Bryan Zivanovic, both of Monrovia, Calif.; and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; and nine siblings.

A memorial service was held May 5 at Douglas and Zooks Colonial Chapel in Monrovia, Calif. A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bryan Cemetery in Catlettsburg, Lawrence County, Ky. Charles Edward Bushong, 76, of Newport died April 29, 2003 in Arcadia, Calif., of congestive heart failure. (Lincoln Co.)He was born Aug. 24, 1927 in Kingsport, Tenn., to Lucy and Walter Lafayette Bushong.
