James T. Jayne, 71, retired guard from Holliston Mills, died at his home on Bloomingdale Road in the Cedar Grove Community at 1 p.m. Friday ( 10/16/1953 ).
He was born in Scott County , Va. , but had lived in this section for the past 53 years. He attended the Baptist church.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Cordia Bushong Jayne; one daughter, Miss Inez Jayne; one son, Vernon Jayne; one sister, Mrs. S. C. Claman of Kingsport; two brothers, Buren Jayne of Louisville, Ky., and Kyle Jayne of Kingsport; also two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Vermont Church with the Rev. Frank Mason and the Rev. Hugh Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the Vermont Cemetery .
Pallbearers will be Gorden Blakely, L. T. Godsey, A. W. Ketron, Robert Mottern, Roscoe Elam and Adwin Dexter.

William Brian Bushong (Age 62) died on March 4, 2016 at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, MD of complications from acute myeloid leukemia.
Bill is survived by his wife of 28 years Rebecca "Becky" Bushong, his sister Carol Bushong, and his children Ellen and William "Drew" Bushong.
Bill received his B.A in History from North Carolina State University, his M.A from Appalachian State University, and obtained his Ph.D in American Studies from George Washington University. A noted historian and scholar, Bill authored numerous publications on architectural history, White House history and historic preservation. Bill worked at the White House Historical Association for many years - first as Historian and Webmaster and later as Chief Historian. He also enjoyed a long professional association as an instructor for the graduate program of Historic Preservation at Goucher College.
An informal celebration of Bill's life for family and friends will be held the week of March 6th at the Hawthorne Village Center, 6175 Sunny Spring Rd, in Columbia, MD with another memorial service to follow later in Washington, D.C. Details to follow on social media and other outlets.

Bushong is the historian and webmaster of the White House Historical Association, an educational non-profit organization with a mission to promote the study and the public’s enjoyment of White House history. This mission of public history and education involves Dr. Bushong in all areas of American history including material cultural research, urban history and preservation, historical and literary studies, political science, as well the issues of race, class and gender. Dr. Bushong actively develops publications, exhibitions, web site displays, and is working toward the establishment of a digital library of White House history for the association.
For many years Dr. Bushong worked in Washington, D.C. as a historian with the National Register of Historic Places (National Park Service) and as an independent author and historic preservation consultant. His major projects during those years included a historic resource study of Rock Creek Park, a lead research role in an exhibition on contemporary federal design, From Mars to Main Street, that opened at the National Building Museum, and numerous publications, including North Carolina's Executive Mansion: The First 100 Years (1991), Uncle Sam's Architects: Builders of the Capitol (1994), and an annotated edition of Glenn Brown's History of the United States Capitol (2008).
From 1994 to 1997, Dr. Bushong worked as a preservation planner with the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission. He researched and prepared local landmark designation reports and presented staff findings to the Historic Preservation Commission; collaborated with community planners in developing historic components of comprehensive area master plans; and conducted outreach and educational efforts aimed at property owners.
In 1997, Dr. Bushong became the staff historian and webmaster at the White House Historical Association and has managed the development of the association's website and contributed numerous articles to White House History on topics ranging from White House architecture and its architects to the presidents as horsemen.
Dr. Bushong received BA and MA history degrees from North Carolina State University and Appalachian State University before coming to Washington, D.C. to complete his doctoral studies in American Civilization at the George Washington University in 1988. The White House Historical Association is deeply saddened by the recent loss of our esteemed Chief Historian Bill Bushong. His pivotal contributions to the field of White House history were based on profound and singular knowledge of this field. Bill’s role at the Association as a generous mentor, a valued collaborator, and a source of extraordinary creativity, often imparted with irrepressible wit, will be greatly missed.
Bill’s many years of dedicated work at the Association included developing research projects and historical content; contributing articles to the Association’s journal, White House History; website management; and directing the establishment of our recently-launched digital library. Prior to joining the Association in 1997, he worked as a historian with the National Park Service and an independent author and historic preservation planner, as well as an adjunct assistant professor at Goucher College. Bill received his B.A. from North Carolina State University, his M.A. from Appalachian State University, and his Ph.D. in American Civilization from The George Washington University.
