MRS. A. J. BUSHONG
"Funeral services for Mrs. Emma L. Bushong, wife of A. J. Bushong, were
to be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the Middletown Methodist church by
Rev. C. C. Collins, pastor. Burial was to be in the Mechanicsburg cemetery.
Mrs. Bushong died Sunday in the Henry County hospital. She had been
suffering from the effects of a fall at her home several weeks ago.
The body was taken from the St. John funeral home to the church at 1
o'clock this afternoon when the body was laid in state preceding the services.
Mrs. Bushong was a member of the Methodist church, of the WSCS and the WCTU.
She was the daughter of the late Jonathan and Evelyn Lewis and had
lived her entire life in the Middletown community.
Survivors include the husband and a daughter, Mrs. Hessel Fleming; a son,
Osa, of Middletown, two brothers, William Lewis of Middletown and Scott
Lewis of Greens Fork; four half-brothers, frank Lewis of Middletown, Charles and
Harlan Lewis of Mechanicsburg, and Stanford Lewis of San Fernando, Calif.;
five half-sisters, Mrs. Blanche Pearce of New Castle, Mrs. J. T. Reed of
Anderson, Mrs. Gladys Titus of Markleville, Mrs. Grace Kern and Mrs. Flossie
McIlvin of Kennard; and three granddaughters."

DEATH OF WILLIAM F. BUSHONG
"William F. Bushong was born February 12, 1860, and died March 18, 1904;
aged 44 years, 1 month, and 6 days.
He united with St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Market,
Virginia, in 1887, by baptism and confirmation. In this relation he lived and
died; manifesting in his life a devotion to his church and his God. He was a
devoted husband, a kind father to his children, and a neighbor highly esteemed.
he was a man broad in his views, and liberal in his church.
He is survived by a widow, who proved to be a most excellent help mate and
devoted wife. He is also survived by his father, Mr. Anderson Bushong, one
brother, Mr. Jacob E. Bushong, and a half-sister, Mrs. Mattie Good, and two
daughters. His death to the widow and daughters is indeed a sore bereavement
and a felt loss to the church. But God has said, "As thy day is, so shall thy
strength be." He can compensate for all our losses, and He makes all things
work together for good to them that love him. On Sunday March 20, his remains
were interred from St. Matthews Church where services were conducted by his
pastor in the presence of one of the largest congregations ever assembled in
New Market, on a similar occasion. May the grace of Christ and the love of God
and the communion of the Spirit abide on all the bereaved.
The pall bearers were Messrs. Thomas Rice, C. N. Hoover, C. E. Clinedinst,
Ed O' Roark, Jos. Rupp, J. H. Garber, John Grove, and Abram Funkhouser."

J. E. BUSHONG DIES
"At 4 o'clock Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, 1946, Jacob Edgar Bushong,
retired farmer, died at his home on Main Street following about a day's illness
following a stroke. He had been in ill health for several years and suffered
recurring attacks from which he seemed to recover.
Mr. Bushong was born near New Market on Oct. 19, 1866 and thus at the
time of his death he had reached the advanced age of 80 years one month and
twenty-five days. He was a son of the late Anderson and Sallie Swartz Bushong,
the latter of the Singer's Glen neighborhood.
Mr. Bushong married Miss Emma Bell Rothgeb of Page County, who preceded
him in death eight years ago. To this union were born and survive a son, John
Bushong, of New Market and two daughters, Mrs. Clyde Koontz (Valley) of
Stanley, Va., and Miss Ida Bushong of New Market.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from St.
Matthew's Church, the Rev. Lewis Koon officiating. Interment will be in St.
Matthew's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Campbell, Alfred Bushong, Merel Hulvey,

NEW MARKET-------John R. Bushong, 69, of New Market, died suddenly at the
home of R. M. Rhinehart here.
He was born 24 September 1897 at the Battlefield House at New Market
and was a son of Jacob E. and Emma Rothgeb Bushong.
He married the former Grace Smucker, who survives.
Surviving, besides his wife, is one sister, Mrs. George Revelle of New
Market.
The funeral will be conducted 2 PM Thursday at Reformation Lutheran
Church by the Rev. Lewis O. Dasher. Burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery.
The body will be at the Theis Funeral Home until an hour before the
service when it will be taken to the church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7:30-8:30 PM

This cause coming in for final hearing the 7th Day of February 1837 before
the Honorable Thomas L. Williams Chanceller upon the Bill of the
Complainant exhibits and proofs and it appearing that Judgment pros sessions have been
regularly entered against the defendants and the cause set down for hearing
exparte according to the course of the Court and the Chanceller being of
opinion that the complainant is entitled upon the part of the conveyance from the
defendant Philip Bushong to complainant Marked Exhibit C to complainants
Bill to have the legal title to Tract of land in exhibit A to complainants Bill
described divested out of the defendants the Heirs at Law of Henry Bushong
deceased and vested in complainant Subject to the life estate of the Said
defendant Elizabeth as provided for in the last will and testament of David Bushong
deceased annexed to complainants Bill as exhibit B. It is therefore
accordingly ordered adjudged and decreed by the Court that the legal title to the
Tract of land in the Bill and in the exhibits A, B, and C there to annexed be
and the same is hereby vested out of the defendants the Heirs at Law of the
Said Henry Bushong deceased and out of all other persons and the same is hereby
vested in in the complainant to take effect and be complete instantly upon
the death of the defendant Elizabeth Bushong widow of the Said David Bushong
but not sooner. AND it is further ordered that the complainant pay the costs
of this cause in the first instance and that he have a decree entered against
Philip, Jacob, Henry, Solomon, Jonathan, and Sally Bushong the heirs at
Law of Henry Bushong for the full amount of Said Costs so by him paid which is
ordered and decreed accordingly.

1841 the under signed commissioner therein named after being first duly
sworn, proceeded to state, settle, and adjust the accounts of George Bowman
administrator of John Bushong decd. and the results is as shown by the within
account. To the widow Catharine Bushong there is due the sum of $662.1/3 and to
each of the other distributees the sum of $1.47 3/7. The administrator produced
proper vouchers for the charges in this account.
Respectively submitted this 4th day of June 1841.
