Plano, Texas -- Carolyn J. Bushong of Lucas died Friday at Medical City Dallas. She has been in poor health for several years and had recently been in the hospital for three weeks.

Carolyn was born March 13, 1930, in Kosciusko County, Indiana, the daughter of Elmer R. and Bernice (Weimer) Baugher of Syracuse, Indiana. On June 19, 1955 she married Merton Bushong in North Webster, Indiana.

Mr. and Mrs. Bushong attended all 12 years of grade school and high school together in Syracuse, Indiana. Mrs. Bushong graduated from Ball State Teachers College with a degree in Music. She received her masters in education from East Texas State University in Commerce. She taught school in Penn Township, Mishawaka, and Milford, Indiana before moving with her family to Texas in 1961. She taught elementary grades at Lovejoy ISD in Lucas/Fairview for 18 years, and also gave piano lessons. She was well known for her piano skills and played regularly at numerous churches wherever the family lived. In later years she played regularly at several area nursing homes for the enjoyment of the residents.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mrs. Robert O. (Olive) Bowser; and two brothers, Ray, who died before Carolyn was born, and Wallace W. (Katherine Kern).

She is survived by her husband of 48 years; daughter, Liz of Lucas, Texas; and four sons, Dr. Philip M. Bushong of King George, Virginia; Navy Capt. Paul J. Bushong and wife, Dona (Rodenbaugh) of Guam; Thomas R. Bushong and wife, Jannett (Folks) of Norman, Oklahoma, and Army CWO Benjamin P. Bushong and wife Vanessa (Dimick) of Clarksville, Tennessee; a sister, Betty (Robert) Haines of North Webster, Indiana and six grandchildren, Kyle, Jacob, Rachel, Cassandra, Sarah and Ellyce.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at the Plano Bible Chapel, 1900 Shiloh Road in Plano. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Tuesday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.

to meet her beloved husband, Paul who passed away in 1970.

Mildred retired from Ensign's dress shop after 10 years. She loved
reading, cooking, and doing yarn crafts. She was a resident of Redwood Springs but
was very active in meeting and making friends.

Kathey and David DeSantis of Tracy, California; Sisters Juanita and husband
Scott Richardson of Van Buren, Arkansas, Julia Coleman of Van Buren,

HENRY HUNTER BUTTS

Martinsburg, W. Va., 27 June ---Henry Hunter Butts, aged about 51, former
member of Martinsburg City Council and for many years proprietor of a
grocery store on West Martin street, dropped dead about 11 o'clock this morning.
Death occurred at the home of Joseph parker, colored resident of Martin
street, where he stopped when he was taken ill. He collapsed a few minutes
after he entered the Parker home and died before medical aid could be
summoned. Dr. Z. J. Waters said death had been caused by a severe heart attack. An
inquest was held unnecessary.
Mr. Butts was born in the Jones Spring section of Berkeley county, a
son of the late Hrnry and Jane Butts. He lived all his life in Martinsburg
and the county. He operated a grocery for 14 years, and served three
consecutive two-year terms as a member of the City Council from the old third Ward.
He also had the contract for hauling mail to and from the railroad
stations for four years. His family resides at 108 South Valley street.
Surviving are his widow, formerly Miss Ida Bushong, of the county;
three children, Hunter Butts Jr. and Misses Frances Lee and Ida Jean Butts, at
home; three brothers, Charles and Dory Butts, of the Jones Spring section
and Harry Butts, of Cumberland, Maryland and two sisters, Mrs. Lula Wood,
this city, and Mrs. Etta Albright, of Baltimore.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the home with the
Rev. Dr. F. R. Wagner, Lutheran pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Old
Norbourne Cemetery. ? which is right? obit says other cem.

The bride is the widow of the late Edward Bushong, of Chester County, Pennsylvania, and a daughter of the late Denton and Elizabeth Hoopergarden, of Whips Cove.
