SOCIAL EVENTS

BUSHONG - MUNRO
Martin Bushong and Miss Daisy D. Munro, both of Omaha, Nebraska, were united in marriage Saturday evening at 8 at the United Presbyterian Church parsonage, Moline, Rev. W. M. Story performing the ceremony. Mr. Bushong has been in the employ of the Deere Company in the branch house at Omaha for the last three years and during the last week has been in the Deere camp. His efficient work has secured him a position as salesman and he has been transferred to Syracuse, New York, where he will go soon to take up his new duties. As soon as particular as to his promotion were learned he sent for his bride-to-be to share his honors. The 308 miles were quickly traveled and after Saturday's work at the instruction camp a party of Omaha young men and J. H. Bushong, brother of the bridegroom, and wife accompanied the couple to the parsonage of the Presbyterian Church, where the young people were united in marriage. Howard Willis of Omaha, formerly of Moline, attended as best man, and Mrs. J. H. Bushong served as Matron of Honor. After an hour's social time Mr. and Mrs. Bushong took the train for Omaha, where they will visit a few days before going on to Syracuse. Morton Edwin Bushong had person sources.2

M, #3548, b. 2 November 1829, d. 28 September 1901

Family: Sarah Bushong (b. 27 February 1836, d. 19 June 1868)

DaughterElizabeth B. Kirk (b. 28 February 1859)

Biography

Benjamin Pennock Kirk was born on 2 November 1829 in Lamborntown (Unionville), Chester County, Pennsylvania. He and Sarah Bushong were married on 3 March 1857.1 He died on 28 September 1901, at age 71.
Benjamin Pennock Kirk, son of Timothy and Orpha Stroud Kirk, was born
November 2, 1829, in Lamborntown (Unionville), Chester County, Pennsylvania. After
attending a private school in London Grove to supplement his public school
education, he held a position as clerk in a wholesale house in Philadelphia, was in
the store at Doe Run, and had charge of the store in Homeville by the time of
his marriage, in 1857, to Sara, daughter of John and Elizabeth Walton
Bushong. They had one daughter.
Never very robust, Benjamin thought that farming might be better for
his health; so he bought a farm near Elkview in the early 60s. But by 1864 he
sold it and moved to Kennett Square, where he spent the remainder of his life.
His wife, Sara, died in 1868. In 1871 he married Lucretia M., daughter
of Mahlon and Mary Kent Brosius. They had two children.
His business was that of secretary treasurer of the Pennock
Manufacturing Company until his retirement about 1890. After that he was active in
borough affairs, serving as borough treasurer, in fire insurance business, being a
director of the Chester County Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Coatesville,
and in caring for the financial interests of a few elderly friends. He was a
worker in the Temperance movement, always voted the Prohibition ticket, and was
an early advocate of equal suffrage.
Benjamin Kirk died September 28, 1901, survived by his wife and
daughters. His son had died two years before. Many years after his death an
historical memorial meeting was held in Kennett Square, which reviewed the borough
fathers, citing leading characteristics. One comment noted his sincerity and
outstanding honesty, saying he was "often too honest for his own interest." Benjamin Pennock Kirk had person sources.2
