For Charlotte Landis (nee Bushong) it was baseball. PHILLIES baseball. Mrs. Landis was deeply rooted in her faith and loved the ocean, spending time on the beach. Just as every salty tear returns to the sea, on Friday 8th May , Charlotte Landis' tide slipped away from the beach in Somers Point. Charlotte, the angels have waited for so long, now they have their way. After 92 years we take comfort not in the length of her life but the depth. Mrs. Landis was born in Lancaster, PA and had been a long time Atlantic County resident. She was feisty, devoted and active. Charlotte had worked as a Long Distance Operator and later as a Manager for Bell Telephone of New Jersey where she had made a career for 38 years. Following her retirement She had been a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers Club and volunteered at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point for over 14 years. Charlotte was a committed congregant of the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pleasantville where she volunteered her time in the choir among many other church activities. She enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit Germany and Hawaii, most notably, among many other trips. Most of all Charlotte will fondly be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Landis is survived by her children H. John & his wife Dorothy Landis of Pickerington, Ohio, and George Landis of Hershey, Pennsylvania. She is the proud grandmother of Alex G., Jeff S. (Cyndi), Gregg D. (Jeanine) Landis, Jenny (Erick) Travers, Juli Kiltsmiller and 10 great grandchildren. A memorial ceremony and the time honored tradition of reuniting those we love with nature will be held privately. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Epiphany Lutheran Church 306 S. Franklin Blvd. Pleasantville, New Jersey 08232. William Delbert Bushong went home to his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 25th, 2022, at Redfield’s Community Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 29th at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD. Family will be present to accept condolences beginning at 5:30 p.m. A prayer service and time of sharing will follow at 7:00 pm.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 30th at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Burdette Cemetery. The funeral service will be live-streamed to the funeral home’s website, below the obituary. William Delbert Bushong was born on the family farm in Tulare, SD on June 27th, 1929, the son of Hubert and Grace (Deeble) Bushong. Delbert attended local country schools until high school when he attended Redfield High School. After high school, Delbert returned to the family farm to begin his life as a farmer.

The Korean War interrupted Delbert’s start in farming. Delbert was drafted into the army and served honorably as a member of the 720th Battalion of Military Police stationed in Japan. Before deploying overseas, Delbert was married to his sweetheart, Donna Sisson. Donna and Delbert’s honeymoon was brief as Delbert was deployed nine months after his and Donna’s wedding.

Donna and Delbert renewed farming along with his parents upon Delbert’s discharge from the military. Along with farming, Delbert worked with the Hand County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. Delbert later served on the Ree Electric board of directors eventually becoming chairman. As chairman, Delbert oversaw the merging of Ree Electric with Beadle County Electric which became Dakota Energy.

Delbert was thrilled to welcome Todd and Ann to the Bushong family farm. Todd and Delbert farmed together for 39 years facing all the challenges of farming with a bond of togetherness and optimism born out of faith and family.

Delbert loved his family and friends. He was quick to smile and slow to disapprove. One of Delbert’s greatest joys was his ability to help others. Whether it be friends in the neighborhood, extended family, or his kids and grandkids, Delbert was always there.

Delbert is survived by the love of his life for 71 years, Donna, of Redfield and children Dave (Diane) of Sioux Falls, SD and Todd (Ann) of Tulare. Delbert cherished his six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Grace, sister Helen Bussell, and his daughter, Debra Bushong.

Mr. John Richard Diehl, Sr., 72, 1501 W. College St., Jonesborough, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Diehl was a Washington County native and was the son of the late Robert Christian and Lydia Bushong Diehl. Mr. Diehl was preceded in death by one son, John Richard Diehl, Jr.
He was president of Richard Diehl, Inc., which he founded in 1952. Mr. Diehl was a Tri-City Airport Commissioner for Washington County. He was a board member of the ETSU Foundation and a member of the ETSU President's Trust and long-time supporter of ETSU Athletics. He was a member of the Jonesborough Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees.
Survivors include his wife, Janey Campbell Diehl, of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Chris and Nancy Diehl, Johnson City; Jared and Martha Diehl, Johnson City; and Joe Diehl, Jonesborough; three sisters, Barbara Carson and Virginia Maden, both of Jonesborough; and Janette Squibb, Nickelsville, Va.; and three grandchildren, Hayley Diehl, Chase Diehl, and Sarah Matney, all of Johnson City.
Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, 753-0514, Jonesborough, is in charge of arrangements.

DIEHL -- Funeral services for Mr. John Richard Diehl, Sr., 72, 1501 W. College St., Jonesborough, who died Saturday, will be conducted Sunday, June 10, 2001, at 8 p.m. from the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ken LaDuke officiating. a resident of Vernon since 1963. She was a homemaker and a member of First
Assembly of God of Vernon.

Survivors include four daughters, Yvonne Nice and Danette Hall, both of
Vernon, Jo Ann Barnes of Annandale, Va., and Lynda Williams of Orange,
Texas; two sons, Paul Reeves of Annandale, Va. and Jerry Reeves of Rockwall,
Texas; five sisters; three brothers; 18 grandchildren and 18 great
grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one grandson and one great granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family
will be at 3324 Yamparika.

Memorials may be made to the SIDS Foundation or a charity of the donor's
