KERMIT - Alvin Edward Bushong, 91, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went home to his Lord Thursday, August 9, 2007.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, August 13, at Belvue Baptist Church, 1101 S. Poplar, Kermit, Texas. Burial will follow in Kermit Cemetery, West Highway 302.

Alvin was born July 29, 1916, in Ballinger, Texas. After graduating from high school in Talpa, Texas, he met his lifelong partner and love, Lurlene Saverance. They married March 14, 1939, and moved west to McCamey, Texas, where they became part of the Upton County ranching community. After working for L. Porter Johnson Hardware in Rankin, Texas, he took a job with Slick Urshel Oil Company.

Slick became Sinclair which became Atlantic Richfield while Alvin continued his employment. After living in Forsan, Texas, and Loco Hills, New Mexico, they settled in Kermit in 1974. He retired after 42 years, in 1981, at Kermit, Texas.

They moved to Midland in 2003 to be closer to their son. Lurlene went home to her Lord in 2003, culminating a marriage lasting 64 years.

Alvin was saved at the age of twelve and was ordained a deacon in the Baptist church in 1961. He loved Gospel singing and served in the choir for many years. He loved children and was a Sunday School teacher. He served as Church Treasurer, Sunday School Director, Chairman of the Deacons and on many other church activities.

In addition to Lurlene, Alvin was preceded in death by his parents Hattie Roberts Bushong and William Reed Bushong, one granddaughter, Reecie Leach, one great-granddaughter, Tricia Moths, five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his son, Robert Bushong and wife Betty, Midland; daughter, Barbara Park, Fort Worth; granddaughters, Lacey Camp and husband Scott, Arlington, Angie Cole, Rockford, Illinois, Kelly McDaniel, Coahoma, Annie Fincher and husband, Kevin, Midland; grandsons Douglas Park and wife Cynthia, Cedar Park, Kyle Park, Plano and Stephen Bushong and wife Amy, Midland; sister, Mary Kurc and husband Ray, Gladewater. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren in addition to loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and a wealth of friends.

Lurlene Saverance Bushong, 82, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Aug. 22, 2003.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Belvue Baptist Church, 1101 S. Poplar in Kermit, Texas. Burial will follow at the Kermit Cemetery, West Highway 302.

Lurlene was born April 16, 1921, in Goldsboro, Texas. While in high school in Talpa, Texas, she met and maried her life partner of 64 years, Alvin Bushong. The young couple headed west to McCamey, Texas, to start their married life on a ranch there. Their son and daughter were both born on the ranch. They lived in Rankin, Texas, when Alvin started working in the West Texas oilfields some years later.

The oilfield career moved them to Forsan, Texas, Loco Hills, N.M., and finally to Kermit in 1974. They enjoyed their retirement in Kermit until May of this year, moving to Midland to be closer to their son.

Lurlene was a warm and loving friend to all who knew her. She contributed her skill and wisdom to her church home and her Christian family continuously. Just about anyone who knew her has a story to tell illustrating her sense of humor, her creative talent, and her love for all around her. She was a creative, talented woman who enjoyed sharing life. We will be warmed with her love for the rest of our lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Lee Hughen Saverance and Jess Saverance; a granddaughter, Reecie Leach; a great-granddaughter, Tricia Moths; five brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Alvin Bushong; son, Robert Bushong and wife Betty of Midland; daughter, Barbara Park of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Lacey Camp and husband Scott of Azle, Angie Cole and husband Jeff of Davis, Ill., Kelly McDaniel and husband Roy of Greenwood, and Annie Fincher and husband Kevin of Midland; and grandsons, Doug Park and wife Cynthia of Cedar Park, Kyle Park of Abilene and Stephen Bushong and wife Amy of Midland. She is survived by 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, very loving in-laws and a wealth of friends.

Betty Lou Boone Holden Bushong was born September 14, 1938 in Stamford, Texas to Frances (Sovey) and OB Boone Sr. She died November 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Midland, Texas. She is proceed in death by her parents, a daughter Reecie Leach and granddaughter Tricia Camp. She is survived by her husband Bob Bushong. Her siblings Jo Ann Head of Abilene, Texas, and 2 brothers Jr Boone and wife Carolyn of Sweetwater, Texas; and Bob Boone and wife Linda of Ballinger, Texas. She is also survived by her children Annie Fincher and husband Kevin of Midland, Texas, Lacey Camp and husband Scott of Grandbury, Texas and Angie Cole of Roscoe, Illiniois. Her grandchildren Regina Easterly and fiancé Casey of Midland, Rebecca Sutherland and husband Rick and Tiffany Hunt and husband Michael all of Midland, Texas; Nick Camp and wife Jay of Ft. Worth and Chris and Zack Cole of Illinois. Betty also is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. In this life Betty was a beautician, a manager of beauty supply shops. She was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed her proudest accomplishment of being the best Nanny Big Bird ever! She was married to J.C. Holden in 1956 resulting in 2 beautiful daughters. After traveling around much of Texas due to her husband's job she decided to go to cosmetology school. In 1965 she received her licenses and she worked everywhere they went. In 1979 she moved to Midland to enjoy life with her 2 daughters and began working as a manager for beauty supply shops. She met and married Bob Bushong on June 18, 1994. They began a beautiful life together and became partners in love and laughter. In 2005 she retired and settled into her favorite role as Nanny. Her absolute joy in life and hobby was enjoying time with her family and cooking for get together with friends. The family would like to think Dr. Porras and his staff for their wonderful care for the last 7 years. Also thank you to Lisa Scott and the HospiceMidland staff. The memorial service will be November 26, 2016 at 10:00am at the Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Gifts of Hope or Hospice of Midland.
