With offices at No. 1824 Webster avenue, Dr. Bushong
is one of the successful medical practitioners of the day
in Pittsburgh. Dr. Bushong's family is of French ex-
traction, three brothers, Beauchamp by name, emigrat-
ing from France to Virginia about 1720. An Irish
school teacher in Virginia was responsible for the
change of the name from Beauchamp to Bushong, con-
sidering the spelling and pronunciation easier. The
family scattered to other states, and in 1840 the doc-
tor's paternal grandfather removed to Ohio. Peter
Bushong, the doctor's father, who is now deceased,
was a farmer in that State throughout his lifetime, and
married Susan Keller, who still survives him, and is
now (1921) seventy-eight years of age.

Park William Bushong was bom on the home farm
near Columbiana, Ohio, Nov. 10, 1874, and re-
ceived his early education in the district schools near
his home, later attending the Columbiana High School,
from which he was graduated in the class of 1894.
Thereafter, he entered the Ohio Northern University,
from which he was graduated in 1898, with the degree of
Graduate Pharmacist Having chosen the medical pro-
fession as his life work, the young man, with this emi-
nently practical foundation, entered the University of
Pittsburgh, and was graduated in the class of 1903,
with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. Serving an
interneship at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital, he
began practice at his present office address in 1904. He
has practiced here continuously since, and now holds a



prominent position in the profession. He has always
followed general practice.

Dr. Bushong is a member of the American Medical
Association, the Pennsylvania State Medical Society,
and the Allegheny County Medical Society. His col-
lege fraternity is the Phi Rho Sigma. The doctor has
few interests outside of his profession, rarely takes a
vacation, and finds his greatest satisfaction in work.
He supports the Republican party, but takes no in-
terest in political honors, and has never aspired to office.

On Jan. 1, 1908, Dr. Bushong married Myrtle W.
Holmes, daughter of Harry W. and Amanda (Hill)
Holmes, of Pittsburgh. He has one brother, Ross
Vivian, who resides in West Virginia, and two sisters:
Pearl (Mrs. Frank Gorman), of Alliance, Ohio; and
Ida (Mrs. Alonzo Bowman), of East Liverpool, Ohia

Miss Bushong was united in marriage to R.R. Marrs July 2, 1871. to this union were born four girls and one boy. Millie E., Quin M., Lucy A., Augusta C. and Emma M.. These all survive if their mother except Quinn who died April 18, 1919.

Mr. and Mrs. Marrs came to Nebraska in the Spring of 1885. For many years they made their home in and around Arnold. Mr. Marrs died October 18, 1917 after which Grandma lived on her property in the south part of Arnold. She had been an untiring worker all her life. Date: 30 July 1997

Orville Courier Crescent 14 May 1918 -- Mrs Lovina Bushong, aged 91 years and 28 days, died Thursday at the Old Peoples Home. Infirmities incident to old age was the cause of death. The body was taken to Columbiana county Saturday morning for burial. Her granddaughter, Miss Harriet B Harrold, accompanied the body.

Facts:

She had one child L Dorra Bushong born July 29, 1869. L Dorra Bushong married Eli Harrold 1891 in Columbiana County. She became a grandmother on June 16, 1893 to Hattie B Harrold. A sad case of events followed as her daughter and son in law both died in 1893 and 1894 leaving Hattie an orphan.

Lovina, an elderly widow herself raised her only grandaughter after this tragic event and they can be found living in Columbiana County on both the 1900 and 1910 census. Lovina was age 73 y/o in 1900 and 83 y/o in 1910.

Following this family with the help of Carol Smith, it was sometime after 1910, Carol told of how Lovina became too frail to care for Hattie. Lovina removed to Wayne Co Ohio to a home for the aged. She chose this area because living nearby in Wayne Co was Harmon Harrold, who purchased a farm there 1908. Harmon Harrold was uncle to Hattie B Harrold.

More to follow as we work with Carol Smith and Joe Miller on her life. We believe it was the family of Lovina Bushong being Harmon Harrold who saw to it a collection of family photographs followed Hattie B Harrold to Connecticut and to the family today.

correct, her parents were Eli Harrold and Eldora Bushong. Her birth date
was 6/16/1893. She was raised by her grandmother, Lavinia Williamson after
both of her parents died of T. B. When her grandmother became elderly she
went to an orphanage. She came to Ct. and married Charles Nettleton Smith of
Naugatuck/ Middlebury, Ct. and had her children with him, 4 children,
Elsie, Eunice Lavinia, Harrold and my mom, Harriet Eldora. She married her 2nd
husband, William H. Slater, on 6/16/1958. John Bushong and Lovina Williamson had one child L Dorra Bushong born July 29, 1869. L Dorra Bushong married Eli Harrold 1891 in Columbiana County. OBITUARIES - Noble McFarland

Noble C. McFarland, 88 216 N. Detroit, died Friday at 11:40 a.m., at the Latham Care Center.

He was former owner of Rea Electric Company until his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and all of the Masonic Bodies, including the 32nd degree.

He was born in Logan county on June 15, 1888, the son of John and Nancy Strayer McFarland. His father died in 1944 and his mother in 1953. He was married in Bellefontain on Aug. 12, 1944, to the former Cuba Bushong and she survives.

Also surviving, are one daughter Mrs. Robert J. (Mary Lou) Boyle, Akron and two grandchildren. He was the last of his family, being preceded by one brother, Rea, who died in 1965, and one sister, who died in infancy.

Services will be held at the Kennedy funeral home Monday at 2 p.m. Rev. C Lloyd Haris, Rushsylvania, will be in charge and burial will be made in the Greenwood cemetery, DeGraff.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The Gilliland surname is found as far back as the 1300’s in Scotland. William Gilliland was born in Scotland in 1538. One of his sons was James, born in 1568. One of James’ sons was John, born in 1593. That John had a son named John, but not a “Jr.” John Gilliland (Iain MacGill'fhaolain) was indeed born about 1638 (in North Edinburgh, Scotland). John probably grew up as a farmer and learnedthe leather trade as he went along. The story starts with the earliest mentioning of John in the Monmouth's rebels. Most likely, John fought in the 1679 Battle of Bothwell Bridge. The bridge, locatedin South Lanarkshire, Scotland is over the Clyde River, nine miles east-south-east of Glasgow. This John had a son named John Gilliland in 1668.

EDWIN DAVID BUSHONG

Edwin David Bushong, 75, of Plain City died Sunday, 27 October 1996, at
Doctors Hospital West.
He was an area well and blast hole driller for many years. A World War
II Army veteran, he was a former officer at VFW Darby Post 3268 in Plain
City. He was a retired volunteer fire department and police captain for the
village of Plain City.
He was born 2 June 1921, in Bokes Creek Township, Logan County, to the
late Clair Aaron and Helen Barringer Bushong. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Joanne Snouffer Bushong in 1965; a brother, Charles Bushong; a
half-brother, James Davis; and a sister, Marilyn Bushong.
He is survived by children, David R. Bushong of Marysville, Mark A.
Bushong and Kathleen H. Bushong of Plain City, Paulette F. Hendricks of West
Mansfield and Carol A. (Melvin) Rogers of London; grandchildren, Rob (Kelly)
Bushong, Kevin (Jessica) Bushong, Layla (George) Weber, Sabrina Hendricks,
Samantha Hendricks, Patrick Rockey, Robert Rockey and Catherine Rogers;
great-grandchildren Emelie Weber, Ryan Bushong, Damion Hendricks, Mathew
Weber, Alec Hendricks and Andrew Bushong; brothers Ernest (Martha) Bushong of
Plain City, Robert (Barbara) Bushong and Clair (Pearl) Bushong Jr. of

SERVICES SET FOR CHARLES BUSHONG

Charles B. Bushong, 51, Powell, died suddenly at Riverside Hospital
Sunday.
Born 25 September 1923, he was the son of Mrs. Helen Bushong, Plain
City, and the late Clair Bushong.
He attended the Warrensburg Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Diana Duncan, Sparta and Mrs.
Sharon Haltrey, Fredrictown; two grandsons; sisters, Mrs. Harriett Majors, and
Mrs. Phyllis Secrist; brothers, Ernest, Edwin, Clair Jr., Richard, and
Robert; and a half-brother James Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday at the Ferguson
Funeral Home, Plain City, with the Rev. Marvin Schamaun officiating. Burial
will be at Highland Memory Garden, Bellefontaine.
