Isaly Library of the Ohio Genealogical Society" located in Bellville, Richland County, Ohio. Carol was a lifetime member of the OGS.
From photos and descriptions, the beautful library and facilities look like a proper and secure place for all of Carol's research. And since Carol undoubtly had more Bushong research material than any current or former researcher, including Mary Feller Wickes (in private hands), this is no doubt the largest cache of Bushong materials in the world. So, that and the fact that there are more Bushongs from Ohio than any other place, I would like to suggest this might be a good repository for all Bushong research, that isn't in it's family's possession. It's worth considering and is much better than it sitting in cardboard boxes, hidden in somebody's closet, where no on can see it or worse...

HON. JAMES A. TRAFICANT, JR.
in the House of Representatives
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1993
Mr. TRAFICANT. Mr. Speaker, I rise here to pay tribute to Boots Bell, a radio personality from my 17th Congressional District who recently passed away. In the words of some of his colleagues, Boots Bell was a legend and his passing marks the end of an era.
Mr. Speaker, Boots Bell started as a disc jockey in 1959 on WHOT in Youngstown. Boots had a powerfully deep voice, one that instantly grabbed hold of you like a strong fist. He was most popular with the younger set, we call them Baby Boomer's today, because he was so different, like their music. Boots wore a goatee and flashy suits. In those days, men did not wear beards, let alone goatees. The look, the voice, the clothes, and the music were very cool to all the young teenage sock hoppers.
Mr. Speaker, Boots worked radio in Youngstown until the day he died. He did stints on four different radio stations in the Mahoning Valley. Before that he served a 3-year tour of duty in Korea where he was wounded several times. His numerous medals include the Purple Heart and five bronze stars. he received a bayonet wound through the knee, and as a result he walked with a cane. He was a true American hero.
Mr. Speaker, Boots Bell was an icon in the Mahoning Valley. Everyone recognized Boots, his voice and his style. His loss creates a void that can never be filled. He will be sadly missed. I know I join his family and friends in passing on condolences. May God bless him.

1875, and the wife and mother as above stated. The day of her burial, June
13th, was the 65th anniversary of her wedding. She filled, in the best and
truest sense, everything comprehended in the term, "a christian mother," and
died leaving behind her the blessed memory of a long life of kindness,
gentleness, and good deeds." Stone photo present

among other details, Andrew entered the Union Army during the Civil War September 1863, in Company F of the 182nd Ohio Volunteer Invantry - 182nd OVI. Mustered out July 1865 with the regiment. HILLSDALE COUNTY (pg 217 and pg 218)
ANDREW BUSHONG.
While traveling | through Hillsdale County, the biographical writers of this Album met with but few active business men who are natives of the county. The vast majority of those who today are tilling the soil and raising stock, or are engaged in business or commercial enterprises, were born without the borders of this county. In presenting this sketch of the career of one of the leading men of Hillsdale County, and a gentleman who is thoroughly representative of its progressive element, we deem it our duty first to advert briefly to the life story of those from whom he derives his origin. Mr. Bushong was born in Columbiana County, Ohio, Sept. 24, 1828, while his father, Jacob Bushong, was born in Shenandoah County, Va., and his grandfather, Andrew Bushong, was also, it is thought, born in the Old Dominion, and was of French ancestry; he followed the occupation of a farmer, and spent his entire life in that State. The father of our subject was reared on the farm in Virginia, and removed thence to Columbiana County, Ohio, where he was among the early settlers of Fairfield Township. He made the toilsome overland journey, bringing his wife with their two children and their worldly effects, their conveyance consisting of a pair of horses and one wagon, which constituted their sleeping apartments at night, while they cooked their food as their horses grazed by the wayside. Upon his arrival Jacob Bushong purchased a tract of timber land, and erecting a pioneer log cabin, he commenced at once to clear and improve a farm. He resided in this place thus employed until 1849, during which time our subject was born in the old log cabin; he then sold out, and accompanied by his wife and six children, started for Williams County. He again found himself a pioneer, and buying a tract of timber land in Jefferson Township, he repeated his experience of pioneer life. On this farm, however, twenty acres of land were partially cleared and the regulation log cabin was already built. He found ample room for improvement, however, and lived to see the desire of his heart accomplished, namely, a good farm with suitable buildings and appliances to leave to his children, whom he had fitted not only by giving them such education as the facilities of the day afforded, but by imparting to them those practical lessons which can be learned only in the school of experience. In 1876 he was called to "that land from whose bourne no traveler returns." The mother of our subject, who in her girlhood was Hannah Keller, was born in Shenandoah County, Va., of German ancestry, and surviving her husband several years, died at the home of our subject in 1887, at the advanced age of eighty-one years.
Andrew Bushong remained at home with his parents, spending his boyhood in the manner common to the sons of pioneers, until seventeen years of age, when he engaged to learn the potter's trade, and after his marriage he started a pottery on his father's farm, which he carried on five years. he then worked at the carpenter's trade for a period of five years, after which he rented land in Williams County, Ohio, which he operated until about 1863. In September of that year he enlisted in Company F, 182nd Ohio Infantry, and served until the close of the war. He went with his regiment to Tennessee, and was on duty principally in that State. he was mustered out with his regiment in July, 1865, and receiving his honorable discharge returned to this county and located on his present farm in Amboy Township.
The land was still in a state of nature, covered with a growth of heavy timber, and he put upon it a log house, and set to work with a will about its improvement and cultivation. His indomitable industry and perseverance, coupled with his good judgment and frugality, have already borne their legitimate fruit, and he is now in possession of a property which compares favorably with the best in this township.
Our subject was united in marriage, Jan. 7, 1852, with Miss Mary Hisey, and to them were born the following children: Elizabeth F., Joseph William, Jacob D., George E., John H., Isabelle, Emma Isadore and Dalla May. Mrs. Bushong was born in Columbiana County, Ohio, April 17, 1828, while her father, Joseph Hisey, was born in Shenandoah County, Va., and removing to Columbiana County, Ohio, was among its pioneer settlers. In 1837 he removed to Richland County, and purchasing a farm, engaged in its improvement, and resided there until his death in 1846. His wife, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Altaffer, was born in Virginia, and was the daughter of George Altaffer. After the death of her husband Mrs. Hisey removed to Williams County, Ohio, and settled in Jefferson Township, upon a tract of land which he had purchased, and there she resided until her decease. Mr. Bushong is a public-spirited man, and is well informed on the topics of the day, though his devotion to his farm and family, and his unostentatious disposition, prevent him from taking an active part in public affairs. In politics his sympathies are with the Republican party.

Hattie
M. Ansley
He died in 1909
Could find Joseph William Bushong in 1880 census still living with
parents Andrew
and Mary Bushong in Amboy but could not find a Hattie Ansley that fit
this girl
with the information that was given in various sources being born in
about
1876 based on a 1910 census record showing a widow Hattie age 34 years.
If they were
married in 1892 that would have only made her 16 when she married Joseph
William Bushong and he would have been a lot older then her. Well,
anything's possible.
Here are the Hattie Ansley's in household in Ohio in 1880:
Defiance County: Harriet Ansley age 33, wife of John Ansley
Hardin County: Hattie B. Ansley age 3, daughter of George and Mary Ansley
Will have to do more research on him when we go to Ohio unless a descendant
would like to step forth and clear up this for us.
3. Jacob Delos Bushong
Born November 11, 1856, Williams County, Ohio
Married August 19, 1883, in Williams County, Ohio to Ellen "Ella" Upp,
d/o Philip
A. Upp and Nancy Upp of Saint Joseph Township, Williams County, Ohio.
Found in 1880 census with parents. Her occupation was listed as School
Teacher.
He died July 4, 1913 in Ohio
We found their marriage record on our trip to Williams County, Ohio. It is
recorded
in William County Marriage Records, Vol. 5 & 6, page 128, Certificate
#378.
We have a picture of Jacob Delos Bushong given to us by a descendant at the
last Bushong Reunion. We compared the picture with the one we have of John
H.
Bushong, his brother and you can certainly tell that they are brothers. The
professional photographer's picture from Robbins Studio in Alexandria,
Indiana that we have of John H. Bushong is with Buena Vista Bushong, a
cousin
and Russell's grandmother. The picture is marked "Grandma & Pa" so it is
very
evident that there was a relationship established.
We would welcome any other family members coming forth with their picture of
John H. Bushong that they might have, that would prove once and for all that
we are correct in our claim, and put the skeptics to rest.
5. George Edwin Bushong
Born January 14, 1858 in Ohio
Died September 5, 1872 in Ohio.
Burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Ransom, Hillsdale County, Michigan
6. John H. Bushong
Born February 1862 in Williams County, Ohio
Married March 13, 1886 to Lillian A. Bugbee daughter of William Bugbee
and wife Jane. John and Lillian had one child: Faye Hazel born 1888 who
married Samuel A. Woulf in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana. No Issue.
Relationship with Buena Vista Bushong, d/o of Andrew Jackson Bushong
from
Virginia, fought in Civil War for the South. One child: Claude Leon
Bushong born Madison County, Indiana in 1903.
John died January 13, 1916 in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana
Burial at East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, Indiana
These Bushong families were not friendly as one fought for the North and
one fought for the South and one can only imagine the conflicts that might
have occurred as a defiant couple fought the parents for their right to be
together.
7. Ida Isabelle Bushong
Daughter left $1.00 in father's will.
Born June 1860 Williams County, Ohio
Married January 24, 1886 to Sherman Dennis, parents unknown
He died in 1934
Children: Glen, Darrel, Merlow, Dorothy, and Erwin Dale Dennis.
In 1880 Federal Census, Ida is still at home with her parents, Andrew and
Mary Bushong in Amboy Township but could not find a Sherman Dennis who would
have been about 15 years of age in 1880. Could only find two Sherman
Dennis's
living in area in 1880 but not sure either fit the bill.
Ada Township, Kent County, Michigan: Sherman Dennis age 27 born OH son of
Aaron Dennis and wife Lenora.
Madison Township, Fairfield County, Ohio: Sherman W. Dennis age 19 born OH
son of Anthony Dennis and wife Angeline.
On Rootsweb they site that Sherman Dennis is son of a Thomas Dennis and
Sally
Osman but could not find them in the 1880 census with a son named Sherman
who
would have been age 15 in 1880.
Anyone out there who could help out here?
8. Emma Isadore Bushong
Born July 17, 1867 Amboy Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan
Married April 4, 1889, Hillsdale County, Michigan to Charles Franklin

Tried to find Charles in the 1880 census without success. Emma was still
living
at home with her parents, Andrew and Mary Bushong.
9. Dalla "Dolly" May Bushong
Born November 8, 1868 in Amboy Township, Hillsdale Co. Michigan
Never married
Died August 7, 1891 in Amboy Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan
Burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Hillsdale County, Michigan.
She was in very poor health.
Am speculating that she suffered from diabetes which runs in the Bushong
family.

was also an early settler in Columbiana county. Our subject was
reared on the farm, and owing to the fact that his father was in
delicate health, he, being the eldest son, was compelled to re-
main at home to work and look after the business, the result be-
ing that he had little time to go to school. Mis marriage took
place in 1837, his bride being Mary R. Rhoads. widow of Nimrod
Rhoads, and daughter of Alex. Boyle. As the result of their
union, they had a family of six children, only three of whom are
living: Daniel, John and Lucretia. Mrs. Bushong was born in
Pennsylvania in 181 1, and died November 7, 1865. On May 2,
[867, he rc:-marricd, this time taking for his life partner Lavina
W illiamson, daughter of Gilbert and Elizabeth (Rounsavell)
Williamson. One child came to bless this union, Dora by name,
born July 2g, i86g. Both Mr. Bushong and his good lady are re-
ligiously inclinetl, he being a member of the Disciples church,
and sh(^ being a member of the Reformed church of Columbi-
ana. All of his boys were soldiers during the civil war, and the
eldest, who enlisted in 1861, contracted a disease from which he
died shortly after returning home. Mr. Bushong began life
without a dollar, and has had to weed his own row during his
whole carc^er, which led him fre(]uently over thorny places and
rugged hills, Init by i)ersistence and pluck he finally pulled
through su(x:essfully. lie now owns a good tract of land well
cuhixaird, which he prizes all the more; because; it was earned by
his o n hard work. I le still has in his iM)ss<;ssion the table from
whicli he and his wife took their first nu^al after marriage. It is
('ntir( 1 ])rop('r to add in conchuling this sketch, that Mr. Bush-
ong is a good man and a worthy citizen.
