Robert Booth, was a native of England, came to the United States as a young man and was married in the east. In 1849 he made his way to the California gold fields, crossing the plains with an ox team. After three years spent in the mines he came north to Oregon in 1852, locating in Yamhill county. He was a circuit rider of the Methodist Episcopal church and preached in all parts of this state during the early pioneer days.

Died, J. T. Bushong, at the residence of William Brewer on Garfield street,
Bloomdale, Ohio, on Monday morning, 19 February 1900, aged 55 years 10
months and 2 days. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery east of Van
Buren, beside that of his wife on Wednesday. Mr. Bushong was postmaster under
Grover Cleveland's administration. He leaves two sons, both grown to manhood
who have the sympathy of the community in their loss. He was well known by
a large circle of friends. In the sixties he traveled through the western
states and territories, an account of which appeared in the Derrick a number
of years ago.

GILMAN RESIDENT DIES ON SUNDAY

CLAUDE BUSHONG SUCCUMBS TO PNEUMONIA AT ST. JOHN'S

Claude Leon Bushong, 43, passed away at four o'clock Sunday morning at
St. John's hospital after an illness of about one week from pneumonia. He
was taken to the hospital Friday from his home in Gilman, and appeared well
on the way to recovery.
He was born near Gilman on 28 September 1903, the son of John and Buena
Vista Bushong, both of whom are deceased. His father came to Indian from
Virginia, and his mother came from the Gilman community.
Mr. Bushong spent almost his entire life in the community where he was
born. On 24 December 1928, he was married to Hazel Ryan, daughter of
Lawrence Ryan, of Alexandria.
For the past five years, Mr. Bushong had been employed by the Forse
Corporation in Anderson. He was active in the Gilman I. O. O. F. Lodge, and
was associated with the Christian Newlight Church at Dundee.
The body was taken to the Dahl L. Stricler funeral home, and was taken
late Monday afternoon to the family home in Gilman, where it will rest, and
where friends and neighbors may call, until the hour of the funeral.
Final rites will be held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Church
of the Nazarene in Alexandria, with Rev. E. D. Hartley, of Muncie, in
charge. Interment will be made in the Forrestville Cemetery west of Summitville.
Surviving, besides the wife, are three children, Bernice, 17, Russell
Keith, 13, and Janice, 9, all at home. There are no brothers or sisters.

Funeral services for Claude L. Bushong were held at the Church of the
Nazarene at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. E. B. Hartley, a former
pastor of the local church in charge. Interment followed in the
Forrestville Cemetery, near Summitville.
Music was furnished by Misses Etta Mae Little, Edith Little and Anita
Gaither.
Pallbearers were Charles Klakamp, Kenneth Cranfield, Durbin Modlin, Lee

Mary Carol Javner, 71, of Walland, Tenn. and 4669 S. Omberg Road, Superior, where she lived with her daughter Lisa and Roy Warring, passed away Friday April 16, 2010, at the University Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

Mary was born on April 24, 1938, in Ashland and was the daughter of Garrett and Alvina (Sorel) Bushong, both of whom are deceased. She graduated from Mellen High School in Wisconsin, also, attended WITC for Early Childhood course, and was retired from her in home daycare, to which she truly was dedicated.

Mary attended the Darrow Road Wesleyan Church when living here, and was a member of the following organization Loyal Order of Moose No. 606, Superior Foster Care Program, Tri Lakes Garden Club.

On June 29, 1957, Mary was united in marriage to Jack Nolan Javner in Mellen.

She is survived by six daughters, Melinda (Mike) Mikloczak of Superior, Mary T. (Brian) VanHornweder of South Range, Lisa (Roy) Warring of Superior, Jacqueline (Rick) Hansen of Minong, Beth (Glen) Spaulding of Foxboro, and Wendy (Reggie) Levy of Clayton, Wis.; three sons, Scott (Terri) Javner of Hawthorne, Garrett Javner of Walland, Tenn., and Christopher (Kathy) Javner of Senegal, Africa; 30 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother Keith Bushong of Rhinelander; sister Bridget Peters of New York; and sister-in-laws, Rita Ackerson and Donna Marek.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Nolan Javner, grandson in-law Adam Beckel, two sisters, Nancy Nelmark and Gail Stankovich: two brothers, John Bushong and Gordan Bushong, and her parents Garrett and Alvina Bushong.

Mary will be placed to rest at the Greenwood Cemetery in Superior with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren present. Mary's family and friends will deeply miss this loving and cherished child of God.

There will be no visitation, viewing do to the sudden death out of state and cremation being done out there. The service will be presented by her son Pastor Christopher Javner. Pallbearer will be Lisa Warring. Funeral arrangements were done in advance with Downs Funeral Home of Superior
