From The Daily Examiner, Tuesday April 20, 1916
JAMES RUEHLEN DROPPED DEAD IN HIS GARDEN
HE WAS FOLLOWING A PLOW, TO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO, AND DIED OF HEART DISEASE
While he walked behind a plow in his garden Wednesday afternoon at West Mansfield, James Ruehlen, a rural mail carrier, was stricken with heart disease and died instantly. Mr. Ruehlen, who was about 63 years old, had engaged Carlos Roberts to plow his garden for him. While Mr. Roberts was so engaged Wednesday, Mr. Ruehlen asked that he might hold the plow handles as he wanted to be doing something. He had made three trips around when he fell in the furrow and expired. He had been a rural mail carrier a number of years and was highly respected in the community. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity. Thrice married, he is survived by his third wife. There are several children of a former marriage. John Ruehlen, of Rushsylvania, is a brother.

At the bottom of the page is Elizabeth's father (as noted on FindaGrave), Anthony Rink, with Elizabeth Rink (a mother or stepmother), but up the page a bit (not listed as households) is the Staver (or Stover) family. If I had to guess the only Staver son, close to our Elizabeth's age is Jonathan Staver age 18 (abt 1832), so Jonathan Staver seems like husband?? Elizabeth Traverse

On the 1870 census for Kosciusko county, Emma was living in Syracuse at the home of Charles & Anna Strombeck, with her mother, 30-year-old Elizabeth, and brother, 7-month-old Francis Marion. Her daddy William had died three years earlier. Her mom had married her dad's cousin David, but he wasn't with them at the Strombeck home.
Emma married George in 1880. She and George had five children: 2 who died in infancy, Bessie, Bertha, and Grace.
OBITUARY
Mrs. Emma Proper, daughter of William and Elizabeth Bushong, was born in Syracuse, Indiana, September 12, 1862, and died Oct. 20, 1895, aged 32 years, 1 months and 8 days. She leaves a husband, three children, and a number of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
Funeral services were conducted at the Church of God, of which she was a member, Tuesday morning. The choir rendered a very beautiful selection, at its conclusion the pastor took for his text the lesson given in the Psalms of David "He Giveth His Beloved Sleep." In the course of his remarks he dwelt on the value of character and the Christian character is essential to every one. By their words ye shall know them, and by the character of the individual is he measured, both in temporal and spiritual things. The character of Mrs. Proper was such that her future happiness is assured: She was a woman of kindly dispensation, bearing her suffering with that patience and fortitude which marks the Christian character. Mrs. Proper lingered long with that dread disease, cancer, and passed quietly away, never murmuring or complaining. The heartfelt sympathy of this entire community is extended to the husband, children, and relatives in their sad hour.
