DIED - At the residence of his father William Bushong, near Oneida, Ohio,
19th August, John Bushong, aged 21 years.
He had gone out as a member of the O. N. G., was taken with measles,
from which he did not recover. He was removed home, but survived only ten
days. He gave evidence months before his death, as well as on his death-bed,
that he was prepared for death. a natural diffidence and sense of
self-unworthiness had kept him from publicly professing Christ. Many friends mourn
their loss, but not without hope.

SENSATIONAL CANING
AN ACTRESS ASSULTS A THEATRE MANAGER
THE TROUBLE BETWEEN THE PARTIES
FINDLAY, OHIO, 29 September -- A highly sensational affair occurred after
the performance at Davis's opera house last night between Martha Wren, whose
company had just finished a week's engagement, and J. C. Bushon and W. H.
Cowles, managers of the Pavilion Theatre company of this city, which
culminated in Miss Wren administering a severe caning to Bushon and incidentally
to Cowles, although her attack was intended for Bushon. The trouble grew
out of the fact that the Wren company broke its engagement to play at the
Pavilion theatre and went to the Davis opera house instead. This created bad
feeling between the parties and Miss Wren went before the footlights during
the performance last night and made an address to the public, in which she
charged Bushon with having sent her several personal letters during the
week asking her to go out driving with him and pursuing her with other
attentions of a compromising character and ended by giving him a vigorous
roasting before the audience.
Bushon and Cowles then got out an attachment for the receipts of the
box office and the baggage on a claim of having made advertising and other
bills on the strength of the company playing at the Pavilion theater.
When the parties met after the performance Miss Wren proceeded to
settle the bill by caning Bushon until Cowles receipted the bill and removed the
attachment. Miss Wren did her work in the presence of her company and other
spectators and was not molested until she expressed herself satisfied.

JULIAN BUSHON, VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR, TAKEN BY DEATH; KNOWN AS "TRAFFIC
DODGER"
This little old man wearing the blue of the civil war veteran at the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors Home, who, time and again, made more than one Sanduskian hold his or her breath by ignoring traffic signals and Jaywalking through the thickest traffic of Sandusky's downtown section. The little old man is no more.
Julian L. Bushon -- for that was the little old man's name -- died at the Home a week ago last Sunday. Somehow his demise was overlooked and it was not until Monday that the fact that he had passed away became known. The old man was a daily visitor at "the fraternity house" --- as he and a lot of other "boys" who patronized the place, call Nick State's Coney Island Lunch on W. Market Street.
"Wonder what's become of him?" queried Mike Alexander, manager, Monday. It was decided to "call up the Home." "Comrade Bushon died a week ago last Sunday and was buried several days
later at Findlay," said Adjutant Dan Stocker. The little old man was well-known to Sanduskians for reasons other than that he was a nifty automobile dodger --- despite his 85 years --- and an
ignorer of traffic signals. Daily he might be seen on the streets with his pockets bulging with letters and circulars and his arms filled with newspapers. No weather was too hot -- no weather was too cold -- to cause the little old man to deviate from his routine. The letters and circulars were claimed from the waster basket in the lobby of the post office, and the papers, at various news-stands anxious to get rid of them inasmuch as they were for the most part, one of many weeks old. The little old man did not care particularly whether his mail and papers were "fresh". He had to have something to keep him busy -- to occupy his mind -- and he availed himself of the best he could find. He was a great reader and a remarkably fluent talker. And he kept himself well posted. Many years ago at Findlay Veteran Bushon was listed high in the "prominent citizen" class. He was a merchant -- in the dry goods business --- and
was successful. "I can't stand it out there at the Home," said the little old man one day at the "Frat House." "The boys just sit around as if they are waiting for the end. A lot of them might as well be dead. I've got to be busy --- doing something. If I couldn't get out and around I'd die -- I know I'd die." Relatives became alarmed when they learned how the little old man defied traffic regulations daily in Sandusky and saw that he was deprived of liberties he had claimed following his admission to the Home something over a year ago. Veteran Bushon was told that he would have to stay at the Home -- quit
running around Sandusky, picking up papers and discarded letters and circulars. As he said he would, Veteran Bushon died. Andrew Buthough -really written Bushong
