Jacob Bushong who married Hannah Keller, daughter of George Keller

This is long and lengthy so we will just put the highlights. This
particular case started with the death of George Keller in 1820. For George
Keller's Will look back in the Archives for July 2006 where we posted about Jacob
Bushong and Hannah Keller. Some of the other posts concerning this family
can be found in the Boschong Archives for August 2005, September 2005, July

One more thing we would like to say before you begin reading this record. I
have been told by some researchers that this George Keller is not related
to George Keller and wife Barbara Ann Hottel but I don't believe that is
the case. There are just too many inter relationships, naming and living in
the same area for them not to be related to them in some way and in those
days no one dealt with money unless there was some relationship.

this place has always housed strong women
Long before 322 Texas Street began hosting Drink and Thinks, this living room was home to something quite similar…
Among the seven or so owners of this house during its almost 100 year existence, none stands out as much as Mrs. Anna Burgoon. Anna was born Anna Bushong in 1875 in Grapevine – the log cabin where she was born continues to be an historic landmark in that town. While there, Anna was a charter member of the Bay View Club, a women literary club. Following the early death of her husband (and while still pregnant with her 10th child, George Bushong Burgoon), Anna moved to Denton, perhaps due to the educational opportunities for her 6 children (four had died in infancy). Despite her unfortunate circumstances and her heavy load of mothering responsibilities, Anna served the Denton community well. She was a prominent member and chairperson for the Shakespeare Women’s Club of Denton where she hosted events in this home, played piano at events, and presented lectures on a range of topics from great operas, to the preservation of trees, to artistic movements in the US, to Chinese folk music, to the necessity of promoting Americanism over the errors of communism, fascism, and the like. In addition, she served as president of the CIA (TWU) Mother’s Club, home group leader for First Baptist Church bible studies, and was appointed to the Denton Parks Board where she was instrumental in approving the site of the first Denton library. An early feminist, newspaper articles point to her encouraging other women to vote. She even served as chairwomen for the local committee charged with the campaign of Texas Gubernatorial candidate Dan Moody in 1926.

It is a guess that Charles' mother is Cevillia, as Isaac married Sarah dec 1861.
On his marriage informatin, he give's Sallie as mother. Sallie is often used as a nick name for Sarah. But, since his mother Cevilla probably died when he was less than a year old, Sarah was like a mother to him, but not his mother. Stone photo present

"Death has again entered our midst and robbed another home of a mother's
love and care. Mrs. Charlie Bushong, of the Bethel neighborhood, passed over the
river on Thursday last, leaving a vacancy in home and hearts, none other can
fill. funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. B. F. Robinson on
Saturday at 1 p. m., after which the remains were placed to await the
resurrection morn, in Bethel Cemetery, of which church she has long been a member.
The Y. W. A.'s of Bethel, sent a sweet floral tribut in expression of their
sympathy. She leaves a husband and two daughters, Lorelle, just entering young
womanhood, and little Margaret, aged nine. She was Miss Simms, of
Rappahannock county before her marriage to Mr. Bushong, about eighteen years ago."

Physical Description
The L-shaped Theis Home was a log two and one half story structure with a metal roof and three brick chimneys, one in the center and at the ends of the "L". There were nineteen windows with eight 10x12 panes and no shutters. There was a one story porch with turned columns.
There were ten large and one small room with twelve foot ceilings. The open string stairway had one landing and narrow rail and rods. The walls were papered and the floors were of medium wide boards.
Historical Significance
According to Wayland's History of Shenandoah County, this house at one time was used for a school (Church School), of the German Reformed Church, and it was at first a small log building, then a few years later it was enlarged, the brick/log construction being used.
The house was then left as remodeled until May 1937, when the owner started to tear it down to build a bungalow, using the same lumber for this purpose.
