Oklahoma-born and a graduate of Seattle Pacific High School in 1924, she married fellow student ROBERT HAYES ’33 in 1925, with the vows administered by her uncle. Following their graduation from Seattle Pacific College, the Hayes’ began their ministry with the Columbia River Conference of the Free Methodist Church. Bob was a founder of a Christian camp and conference center and an Army chaplain; Willa taught school. Her first assignment was a one-room school house for the first eight grades, a job that paid an additional $5 a month for janitorial work. She taught in Idaho and Oregon, and in schools in Germany, Japan, and Pakistan. Sunday school teaching was her habit, as was a Bible study in her home for many years. Willa is survived by three children, including daughter MARILYN HAYES WELLS ’49 and son-in-law, RAYMOND WELLS ’46, a professor of philosophy at Seattle Pacific for 26 years (1967–93), as well as ROBERT HAYES ’64. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, including JOEL MOOERS ’09 and ISAAC MOOERS, a senior; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong resident of Rohrerstown and a 1916 graduate of the former Shippen School in Lancaster.
A homemaker, she was a member of Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Lancaster.

The Last Will and Testament of Adam Bushong of the town of German in the
County of Richland and State of Illinois made and published the 15th day of
October in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety four.

In the name of God, Amen. I Adam Bushong of the Township of German in the
county of Richland and State of Illinois of the age of Eighty three years,
and being of sound mind and memory do hereby make, publish and declare this my
Last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say:
FIRST: It is my will that my funeral expenses and all my Just debts be fully
paid.
SECOND: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary A. Launer One Hundred
Dollars.
THIRD: I will and bequeath to my four Grandchildren Margaret Greathouse,
Mary A. S. Frank, Barbara A. Smith, Ida R. Bushong each of them Twenty five
dollars.
FOURTH: I give and bequeath all the residue of all my property Both Real and
personal property to my daughter Barbara Cotterell.
In order to pay such Legacies it is my will and I hereby direct that my
Executor hereafter named in this will be empowered to make sale of the S. E.
1/4, of S. E. quarter Se 10 NE 1/4 of the NE quarter Section 15 SW SE Section
16 all in town 4 North Range east said Executor shall have the same power to
sell said real estate and make Deed or Deeds the same as I would have if
living without any order from Court.
Having full confidence in the integrity of John Kuster, I do Lastly I
hereby nominate and appoint him the said John Kuster To be the Executor of this
my last Will and Testament hereby revolking all former Wills by me made.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the Fifteenth
day of October In the year of Our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and ninety
four.

He was living in Richland County, Illinois, and was a farmer. He enlisted into Company B, 98th Illinois Infantry on 05 August 1862 in Richland County, Illinois. He was mustered into federal service on 03 September 1862 in Richland County, Illinois as a Private. He was mustered out of the service on 27 June 1865 in Edgefield, Davidson County, Tennessee.

Frederick was married to Mary Ann Bushong, at Olney, Illinois, 16 March 1855. He was licensed to preach the Gospel by the Indiana Conference of the Evangelical Association in 1865. For over 20 years he was a circuit rider. He held and served the following appointments: Matoon 2 years, Carmi 2 years, Vandalia 2 years, Fulton 2 years, St Marys 1 year, Solomons Creek 2 years, Adams Co. 2 years, Greenville 2 years, Winchester 2 years, Mt. Carmi 1 year, Philipsburg 1 year, West Salem 2 years. These churches and fields were scattered all over Illinois, Indiana and western Ohio.

Because of eye trouble he gave up his work and in April of 1886, moved his family to Dayton, Oregon where he again preached for 1 year. In September of 1886, he purchased 80 acres on Chehalem Mountain, Yamhill county, Oregon, where they resided until they passed away. Twelve children were born to this marriage.
