DEATH OF MRS. JOHN M. NEESE

At 2 o'clock on last Sunday morning, Nov. 16, 1924, Mrs. Emily Virginia
Neese, wife of Mr. John M. Neese, departed this life at their home about four
miles west of New Market, Va. About six weeks ago Mrs. Neese was stricken with
paralysis which affected her left side, but regained her speech a couple
days afterward. She was again stricken on Monday evening preceding her death,
after having been confined to bed for about a week.
Her parents were Mr. Peter and Mrs. Susannah Bushong (nee Kipps) who had
five children--Perry (who died about forty years ago), Emily (subject of this
sketch), Elizabeth of New Market; Mr. John Bushong, Annville, Pa.; and Mr.
Jacob Bushong of near New Market, all born on the old Bushong homestead about
four miles west of this town.
Mrs. Neese was born December 19, 1859, and was aged 65 years, 10 months
and 28 days.
She and Mr. John M. Neese were married June 5, 1878. They had three
children--Virgie, George and May. She is survived by her husband and all three of
their children and three grandchildren.
Early in life Mrs. Neese became a confirmed member of Radar's Lutheran
Church whilst the late Rev. John S. Bennick was pastor. Later she transferred
her membership to St. Martin's Congregation in which congregation she remained
until her death. Mrs. Neese was an affectionate wife, good mother, and kind
neighbor and highly esteemed by all who knew her.
Her active participation in the duties of the home, of the neighborhood,
and the church in which she enlisted the activities of her entire family
stress her fidelity in a commendable effort to attain the highest Christian
standard of right conduct.
Meeting at 10 o'clock on last Tuesday morning at her late home where
religious services were held, her funeral was held from St. Martin's Lutheran
church, her pastor Rev. T. A. Graves officiating in the presence of an unusually
large congregation.
Pallbearers---Messrs. W. H. Dove, John L. Zirkle, Lewis Zirkle, Philip
Olinger, P. A. Zirkle and Wm. McNeal.
Among others who attended the funeral from a distance were: Dr. and Mrs.
A. N. Golladay, Mr. C. F. Golladay, Cumberland, Maryland, Mr. R. M. Golladay,

JOHN W. BUSHONG DIES

At 5 o'clock on Tuesday morning, January 9, 1940, John William Bushong
passed away at the home of his brother. Mr. Jacob J. Bushong, who resides on
the Captain Rice place in the northeastern suburbs of New Market. Mr. Bushong
has suffered the past five years with diabetes. On December 24 he was brought
to New Market from near Annville, Pa., and his condition continued to grow
worse until death ensued.
Mr. Bushong was a son of the late Peter and Susannah Kipps Bushong and
was born near Mt. Zion Church on October 1, 1864. He had thus attained the age
of 75 years, 3 months and 8 days.
When Mr. Bushong was a small boy his parents died and he was taken to
rear by the late Mike Filzmoyer and family. When he became a young man he worked
for a number of years in the Broadway and Timberville communities as a farm
laborer. About 15 years ago he removed to near Annville, Pa., where he was
employed until his health did not permit him to work.
Mr. Bushong married the late Lucy Minnick but later they were divorced.
No children were born to this union.
Mr. Bushong is survived by his brother J. J. Bushong, and a sister Miss
Mary E. Bushong, who also resides with the family of her brother J. J.
Bushong. A brother Perry Bushong died many years ago at the age of 26, and a sister
Mrs. John Neese (Emma) of the St. Martin's neighborhood, also preceded him in
death.
Funeral services were held from Mt. Zion Lutheran Church on yesterday
(Wednesday) afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. W. H. Kibler officiating.
Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. Members of the Church Council of Mt.
