Surviving are her husband; one son, Denny Peterson, Knoxville; her mother Leona Bushong, Knoxville; one sister, Carolyn McLaren, Knoxville; one brother, Jack Bushong, Galesburg, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

She was reared in Gilson, and graduated from Gilson High School in 1945. She was a bookkeeper for the former Carlson Services, and the former Peterson-Chism Trucking Company. She was bookkeeper for the Knoxville Community Fire Protection District for 42 years.

She was a member of Gilson Community Church, and a 40-year member and past president of the Harry Philblad American Legion Post 749 Auxiliary.

Funeral was held at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, with Rev. James Vancil officiating. Burial was in Knoxville Cemetery.

Mildred Bernice Jensen, 98, formerly of Springfield and Athens, Ill., passed away Dec. 18, 2016, in Las Vegas. Bernice, daughter of Louis Bushong and Grace Mae (nee Ferguson) Bushong, was born July 26, 1918, in Athens. She married Charles O. Jensen, son of Emery C. Jensen and Esther (Lawson) Jensen. They had three children, Dean (Kathleen Becker Jensen) of San Diego, Calif., Phyllis (Charles Seipel) of Las Vegas and Rita Ann (Steve Kalaskie) of Normal, Ill. Bernice was blessed with seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She had an indomitable spirit and approached life with enthusiasim. Her motto was, "Life is short, so make the most of it!" She loved to travel, play golf, and play cards. She began working during World War II and continued until she was 91, including 35 years at Sangamo Electric, and 27 years at the State of Illinois Revenue Department. Driving until she was 95, Bernice participated in a number of organizations, Eastern Star since 1942, Daughters of the American Revolution since 1991, Colonial Dames since 1996 and Colonial Daughters since 2008. She volunteered at Memorial Hospital in Springfield for 14 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; her sister, Alta "Topsy" Pierceall; son, Dean; and son-in-law, Charles Seipel. The family will hold a private service at Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Mrs. Ida Bushong, nee Haas, 56 year-old native of Belleville, died of complications, at 6 o'clock Saturday evening in St. Elizabeth's Hospital. She had resided at 306a Collinsville Avenue, East St. Louis.
Mrs. Bushong was born on August 27, 1877, a daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Haas, nee Christian. Her mother was born in Germany and her father was born in Detroit, Michigan. She was married to John Bushong in St. Louis seven years ago. He survives.
Besides her husband she leaves three sons, Marshall, James, and Robert Easton; two daughters, Anna, wife of William Indermark and Miss Lillian Easton, all of East St. Louis; a brother, Michael Haas of Stanton, Ill., five sisters, Anna, wife of Phillip Herbert of the Millstadt road; Mary, wife of Robert White of St. Louis, Elizabeth, wife of Herman Nelson of 221 North Thirty-eighth street, Belleville; Selma, wife of Anton Zink of 720 Blair Avenue, Belleville, and Clara, wife of James Bailey of 2922 Irene Strret, Belleville, and four grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Sophia Haas King died nine months ago.
The funeral will be held at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the Pete Gaerdner Funeral Home to Walnut Hill Cemetery. Rev. C.R. Hempel of Christ Evangical Church will conduct services. Burial will be made in Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Pearl Gomez Bushong. He married Helen Watts 17 November 1964, in
Keithsburg.
He was owner/operator of the Highway Tap, Keithsburg, for 25 years
retiring in 1990. He was a member of Monmouth Masonic Lodge 37. He enjoyed hunting
and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Bushong, Aledo; son and daughter-in-law,
Larry and Harriet Bushong, Florida; a sister, Thelma Larkins, Oquawka,

He was owner/operator of the Highway Tap, Keithsburg, for 25 years retiring in 1990. He was a member of Monmouth Masonic Lodge 37. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Bushong, Aledo; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Harriet Bushong, Florida; a sister, Thelma Larkins, Oquawka, Ill.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Rose Bushong, Oquawka, and Stewart and Mary Bushong, Monmouth; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Janet and Earl Smith, Aledo; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Theresa Boughton, fLorida, and Dennis and Pat Diehl, San Diego, Calif.; several stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lucille and Margie; and a brother, Bill.

Thelma A. Larkins, 91, of Oquawka, IL died at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at her home.

She was born May 5, 1923 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Julius and Pearl (Gomez) Bushong. She was raised and educated in Oquawka and Galesburg, graduating from Carl Sandburg College.

Thelma married William Larkins in Kahoka, MO on May 3, 1941 and he died Aug. 25, 1980.

She was a nurse at Community Memorial Hospital in Monmouth, the Henderson County Health Dept. in Oquawka and nursing homes in the area. She last worked for the Oak Lane Nursing Home in Stronghurst for 12 ½ years before retiring.

Thelma enjoyed gardening, flowers, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing, crafts and reading.

She was a member of the Oquawka Methodist Church, a 4-H leader for 18 years, Girl Scout leader for 10 years and volunteered at several places.

Survivors include her son, William (Bonnie) Larkins III of Orion, IL.; daughter, Diane Meldrum of Oquawka; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren; brother, Stuart (Mary) Bushong of Monmouth; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Duane Larkins; daughter Susan Gilbert ; 1 great granddaughter; 3 brothers, Paul Bushong, Julius "Blackie" Bushong and Louis "Bud" Turner; 2 sisters, Lucille Tinker and Marjorie McGraw.

Cremation has been accorded. No services are planned at this date. A private interment in Biggsville Cemetery will occur at a later date. Memorials may be given to D.A.V, Help Hospital Veterans or Am-Vets. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
