GUY BUSHONG OF WOODLAWN, DIED AT AGE 67

Guy Bushong of Woodlawn, died at 8:50 am Sunday at Good Samaritan
Hospital at the age of 67 years five months. Mr. Bushong was a retired farmer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Mt. Catherine
Christian Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Osborn Funeral home in Dix where
friends may call after 3:00 pm Tuesday.
Mr. Bushong was born in Waltonville on 3 October 1900, the son of
Andrew and Annie (Morgan) Bushong.
He was first married to Ruth Fuller in 1921. She preceded him in death
in 1948. In 1951, he married Grace Standerfer who survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Vernon Bushong and Ronald Bushong,
both of Woodlawn, and Myron Bushong of Decatur; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred
Foutch of Centralia, and Mrs. Velma Shelton of Mt. Vernon; two brothers,
Ray and Clyde Bushong, both of Centralia; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Piercy of
Centralia, Mrs. Edna Merriman of Mt. Vernon; 15 grandchildren; 7 great
grandchildren; and 3 step-children, Guy Standerfer, Mrs. Paul Hayes and Mrs.

MRS. GUY BUSHONG DIES AT AGE 43

Mrs. Ruth Edith Bushong died yesterday afternoon at her home five miles
northwest of Woodlawn, after a long illness. Her age was 43 years 5 months
and 7 days.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm at the Mt. Catherine
Church, with the Rev. Thomas Harper officiating and burial will be in Mt.
Catherine Cemetery. At 4:00 pm tomorrow the body will be taken from the Osborn
Funeral Home at Dix to the family home, where friends may call.
Mrs. Bushong was the daughter of C. E. and Carrie (Robinson) Fuller. On
21 February 1921 she was married to Guy Bushong, who survives.
She was a member of the Mt. Catherine Christian Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her father, C. E. Fuller of
Woodlawn; three sons, Vernon of Mt. Vernon, Myron and Ronald, at home; two
daughters, Mrs. Velma Davis and Mrs. Mildred Bailey of Mt. Vernon; two
brothers, Everett and Harmon Fuller of Rochelle, Illinois; five sisters, Mrs.
Oscar Foutch of Woodlawn, Mrs. Pearl Benjamin of Ashton, Illinois, Mrs. Myrtle
Crane of Dix, and Mrs. Iona Eckhardt and Mrs. Lorena Beck of Rochelle,
Illinois.
Two brothers preceded her in death.

Vernon G. Bushong was born on 30 August 1926 in Illinois. He and Virginia A. Hicks were married. He died on 14 February 1997, at age 70, in Woodlawn, Jefferson County, Illinois. He was buried in Mount Catherine Christian Cemetery, Woodlawn, Jefferson County, Illinois.

Melvin Andrew Bushong, age 88, died January 25th at his home in Centralia, Illinois. Melvin was the son of Ray and Anna Bushong. He was born March 20, 1927. Melvin was married to Eileen Gaskins Bushong on June 4th, 1948 and had 67 amazing years together. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Howard, Hubert, and Earl and one sister Wilma Dobbs. Melvin is survived by his pride and joy, his daughter Nancy Schofield, and her husband Tom Schofield of Edwardsville, Illinois. He is survived by 3 grandchildren; Amy Tucker and her husband Jerry Tucker of Suffolk, Virginia; Ann Langston and her husband Greg Langston of Edwardsville, Illinois; Jeremy Schofield and his wife Heather Schofield of Edwardsville, Illinois; 10 great-grandchildren; Andrew (wife Brittney), Christi (husband Shawn), Jacob, Carlee, Austin, Megan, David, Hayden, Tyler and Ethan; 2 great-great grandchildren; Max and Daisy. He taught his children to be generous, kind and to always eat candy before dinner.

Melvin Bushong was a proud veteran of the US Navy and served in WWII. He is a member of the First Christian Church in Centralia. After the war, Melvin owned and ran a service station and repaired many wrecked cars. Melvin was also a landlord owning many houses in Centralia and the surrounding cities. He finally retired from Coca Cola in 1989. Fishing, hunting, gardening tomatoes, camping and playing with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were Melvin’s greatest joys. He was also an avid Cardinal baseball fan, and a Centralia Orphans basketball fan.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

A service of celebration of life for Melvin will be held at Irvin Macz Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm on Friday, January 29th with the service at 1pm. Interment will be at Mt. Catherine Cemetery in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Centralia.

In lieu of flowers, everyone raise a can of Coke in honor of Melvin Bushong. Cheers!!

Melvin Bushong and wife Eilene of Centralia and Lewis Dobbs of Centralia. I just went on line and ordered the DNA-37 Kit for Melvin Andrew Bushong. I don't know how long it will take to get to him, but please keep me posted. His lineage is the Illinois Bushongs. His father was Ray, son of Andrew, son of John Jr. son of John Sr., son of Andrew.
Melvin's father Ray and my husband's grandmother Maude were brother and sister.
