Delbert Gene Bushong, 68, of Woodlawn, died at 12 p.m. May 8, 2009, at his
home in Woodlawn.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1940, in Cravat, the son of Howard and Eula Ferne
(Baldridge) Bushong. He married Joyce Benthall on Nov. 23, 1983, at Fouts
Christian Church in Cravat and she survives.
Mr. Bushong is survived by his wife, of Woodlawn, a son, Brad Bushong and
wife Kristin of St. Louis; a daughter, Christy Kauffman and husband Shan of
Loveland, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Susan Decker and husband Curtis of
Woodlawn and Julie Coleman and husband Tim of Woodlawn; a stepson, Daniel
Wilson and wife Jennifer of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Dylan, Samantha, Emma
and Alexandria Kauffman of Loveland, Colo., Mike Coleman and wife Kati of
Woodlawn, Steven Coleman of Woodlawn, Doug Junkins and wife Shana of
Centralia, Tank Junkins of Woodlawn and Samuel Wilson of Mt. Vernon; and two uncles,
Melvin Bushong and wife Eilene of Centralia and Lewis Dobbs of Centralia.
His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Bushong had been a teacher and coach at Willow Grove Grade School,
Irvington Grade School, Grand Prairie Grade School, was a coach at Woodlawn
High School and counselor at Mt. Vernon Alternative School. He was a
successful thoroughbred trainer, avid golfer, fisherman and quail hunter. He was a
member of Woodlawn Christian Church, Jefferson County Board member,
Republican County Chairman, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Centralia
High School for high school football.
No public funeral services will be held.

Mrs. Sims, age 82, of Meridian, entered into eternal life on Friday at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Jack Sims. Mrs. Sims, also known as "Jean", was born on August 27, 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio, the youngest daughter of Herman Henry and Gladys Bolton Bushong. Jean spent her entire career in the medical field, rising to head of nursing at Newton Regional Hospital. She later retired from East Mississippi State Hospital as a nursing supervisor.
She was an active member of Westwood Baptist Church in Meridian, where she dedicated her time and talent to many of the church functions, including facilitating Grief Counseling Sessions. Following the death of her husband, she performed volunteer work for Southern Care Hospice of Meridian.
She leaves her loving son Cliff, his fiancée Mary, and his daughter Samantha McMullan, three sons Clint, Charles and Brandon and ten grandchildren. She also leaves her loving daughter-in-law, Annette Sims, her daughter Samantha Sims and one granddaughter Hannah. She also leaves her two loving furry feline "children", Tommy and Sammie.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth G. Nelms of Trafford, Pa., who was mother to Melvin (Flora) Nelms of Level Green, Pa., Richard (Flo) Nelms of Murrysville, Pa., and Robert (Yvonne) Nelms of North Versailles, Pa., and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Herman Henry, Jr. of Poland, Ohio, who was father to Gary Arthur Bushong (deceased) and Lynn Ann Bushong (Jerry) Kavan. She was also preceded in death by her sister Evelyn M. Meyer of Bloomingdale, Illinois, who was mother to Richard (Patricia) Meyer, of Roselle, Illinois, Barbara (Richard) Miller, of Princeton, Illinois, and Sharon (Steven) Wright, of Princeton, Illinois, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her only living sister, Alice Marie B. Barney, currently residing in Portage, Ind., is mother to Ken (Wanda) Barney, of Westfield, Ind., Jerry Barney, of Hobart, Ind., Karen (Thomas) Barney Zimmerman of Deer Park, Illinois, and David (Helene) Barney, of Valparaiso, Ind., and several grandchildren. Jean was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jeff Sims.

Allentown, Sep 18 - Maria,aged 73 years, widow of Alexander Jacobs, died this morning of general debility at the Eagle Hotel in Bethlehem. Deceased was a member of the Bushong family, of Reading who built the Schuylkill & Lehigh branch of the Reading Railway. Her first husband's name was Grosh. The second husband, Alexander Jacobs died about 12 years ago, from which time on Mrs. Jacobs and her daughter lived at the hotel in Bethlehem. These children remain: Miss Elizabeth Jacobs, of Bethlehem: Attorney Frank Jacobs, of Allentown, and W. H. Grosh, of Tampa, Florida. WALTER JUNIOR BUSHONG, 70, died at 5:05 p.m. Oct. 21, 2005, at Beverly
Health Care, Lima.
He was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Lima to Walter Warren and Bernice Lewis
Bushong, who preceded him in death. On July 28, 1961, he married Barbara R.
Engle, who survives in Ada.
Mr. Bushong retired from the custodian department at Ohio Northern
University. He attended Mount Zion Baptist Church, Harrod. He was a member of the
McGuffey Conservation Club, Hog Creek Game Club and Ada Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a son, Bill Bushong of Dola; a daughter, Merle "Lou"
(Donald) DeWitt of Ada; five sisters, Ruth Sheets of Decatur, Ind., Helen
Walker and Pat Nigh, both of Lima, Betty (Emil) Gratz of Danbury, Wis., and
Julia (Bill) McClain of Beaverdam; mother-in-law Mildred Engle of Harrod;
sister-in-law Anita (Jerry) Marshall of Harrod; several nieces and nephews; and
six grandchildren and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Ray and Eddie Bushong; a
sister, Norma Burkholder; father-in-law Oren E. Engle; and six
brothers-in-law, Philip Engle, Carl Sheets, Chuck Ridenour, Ralph Walker, Robert Nigh
and Roger Klinger.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
The Rev. Wanda Werking will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery,
Westminster.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home
and until time of services Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ada Visiting Nurses & Hospice, the
