Services are scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Stinson-Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant MI with the Rev. Mark Loomis officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Bushong was born Jan. 12, 1889, in Mt. Pleasant to George and Hannah (Brown) McClain. She married Harvey M. Bushong on Sep. 18, 1905, in Mt. Pleasant MI. A lifelong resident of the area, Mrs. Bushong was the oldest member of the Moose Lodge in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Bushong is survived by three sons, Elmer and Burton of Mt. Pleasant MI, and Earl of Ishpeming MI; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Burr and Mrs. Otis (Edith) McPhall, both of Mt. Alexander John Smillie, 86, of Route 5, Mt. Pleasant MI died August 1, 1969, at Pleasant Manor after an illness of about three months. He was born October 8, 1882, in Grenville, Quebec, Canada. He came to MI in 1886 with his parents William and Adelaide Smillie and resided on a farm in Wheeler Twp., Gratiot Co., MI.
He married Nancy Anna Bushong in Onaway, Presque Isle Co., MI on Oct 25, 1909. He retired from the Mt. Pleasant City Water Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Anna, and one son John Smillie. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Elizabeth) Robert of Mt. Pleasant; one son Alfred James Smillie of Litchfield MI; 15 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug 4, 1969, at 2 p.m. at the Stinson Funeral Home with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant MI.

Services are at the Stinson-Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Steven M. Smith of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant MI. Mrs. Robert was born Nov. 11, 1912, in Mt. Pleasant MI to Alexander John and Nancy Anna (Bushong) Smillie. She married Lawrence E. Robert on Aug. 20, 1930, at her parents home. A lifetime resident of the Mt. Pleasant area, she retired from the State of Michigan after working at the Regional Center for Developmental Disabilities as an attendant nurse for 16 years. She also worked for The Embers Restaurant and Central Michigan University. Mrs. Robert is survived by her husband, Lawrence E. Robert of Mt Pleasant MI; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence J. and Karen (Darwin) Robert of Lake Jackson, TX; a daughter, Donna Joan Harless of Merrill MI; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Robert was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John Smillie on June 20, 1957, and Alfred James Smillie on April 1, 1974.

Lawrence "Larry" Junior Robert, age 79, of Kerrville, TX, formerly of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014, at his residence in Kerrville.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Leaton United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. A Celebration Service will immediately follow visitation at 11 a.m. with Pastor Michael Palmer officiating. Burial will take place at Memorial Gardens in Mt. Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Leaton United Methodist Church.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; son Lawrence Dale "Dale" Robert; and granddaughter Camille Hope Arnold.

Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Robert, of Kerrville, TX; his children, Kayetta Lynn Robert of Biloxi, MS., Daniel James Robert of Cleveland, TX., Michele Lynn (Winkler) Arnold (Jonathan Arnold) of Issaquah, WA., Jeffrey Craig Winkler (Linda Comphel Winkler) of Brentwood, CA., and Scot Andrew Winkler (Julie Johnson Winkler) of Livermore, CA. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Harless of Mt. Pleasant, MI.; brothers-in-law Keith Darwin (Heather Swaim Darwin) of Ferrisburgh, VT., Kenny Darwin (and significant other Debbie Gilmore) of East Lansing, MI.; and sister-in-law Kathy Darwin Jackson (Vic Jackson) of Lone Pine, CA. Lawrence E. Robert, 88, of Mt. Pleasant MI died Monday, May 3, 1993, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant. Services are at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Ronald Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or the Community Cancer Services. He was born Feb. 20, 1905, in Mt. Pleasant MI, the son of Edward and Carrie (Harkins) Robert. He married Elizabeth Marie Smillie on Aug. 30, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant MI. She preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1988. A lifetime area resident, Mr. Robert was a field representative in the oil field. He had been employed with Wittmere Oil and Gas and then for Wisner Oil and Gas. He then worked for Central Michigan Community Hospital in the printing department for several years. He had a welding and repair shop at his farm for many years and also enjoyed bowling. Mr. Robert is survived by a son, Lawrence J. (and wife Karen Darwin Robert) of Lake Jackson TX; a daughter, Donna Harless of Merrill MI; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Dale Robert; a brother, Carl; and a sister, Rosa Courtright.

OBITUARY – Della B. Bushong
Della B. (Radle) Bushong, 85, of 6476 25½-Mile Road, Homer MI died Sunday in Central Michigan Community Health Center in Mt. Pleasant MI. She was visiting relatives in Mt. Pleasant when she was stricken. She was born in Harbor Springs MI and resided in the Marshall area from 1922 to 1979, when she moved to the Homer address. She was an active midwife in the area for many years. She was a member of the Homer Senior Citizens, Marshall Navy Mothers and the Gold Star Mothers, and attended the Cook's Prairie Baptist Church. She was well known in the area for her skill as a quilt maker. Her husband, Kearney H. Bushong, died in 1968; a son, Kearney D. Bushong, was killed in military action during World War II, and a daughter, Marjorie, died in infancy. She is survived by sons, Clarence Bushong of Marshall, and Otto Bushong and Craig Bushong, both of Homer; daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Beatrice) O'Dell of Homer, Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Tobias of Albion, and Mrs. Lawrence (Myona) Lapland of Marshall; 29 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Radle of Cheboygan MI. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorial donations may be made to the Homer Senior Citizens or the Marshall Navy Mothers.
