Laurie Bushong Lang BOERNE — Laurie Bushong Lang, 50, passed away on
Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008.

Born in Kerrville, Texas, on Sept. 20, 1958, she was the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Perry Bushong. Laurie grew up on Cedar Springs Ranch with her mom and
dad and sister Jane. She graduated from Rocksprings High School in 1976. She
then attended Texas A&M and graduated in 1980 with a major in Physical
Education. She was a dedicated Aggie and loved Texas A&M.

On July 12, 1980, she was united in marriage to Michael David Lang. The Lord
blessed this union with a son, Jeffrey Michael Lang, and a daughter, Sarah
Lang Goodman. Laurie and Mike moved to San Antonio in 1982, where she worked
for attorney Steve Kosub. In 1991, she was hired by Gordon Hollon to manage
Kendall County Abstract Company. She was joined by Mike in 1997, and together
they managed the company for Mr. Hollon until his death in 2002, at which time
the Langs purchased the company from Mr. Hollon’s estate.

Laurie found fulfillment in her life in ministry to her family, her church
and community, and ultimately in her Lord. Laurie and her family are members
of Messiah Lutheran Church in Boerne. She was a dedicated church member,
serving on numerous committees and boards. In the community, Laurie gave of her
time and talents in many ways. She was a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of
Boerne and served as its president in 1994-95. Laurie also served an unfinished
term on the Boerne Independent School District Board in 2004 and 2005.

Laurie found great joy and fulfillment in helping others. She always
remembered family member’s birthdays, anniversaries or other special days. She
always was available for Christian guidance for her many nieces and nephews.
Laurie enjoyed personally baking each employee’s favorite birthday dessert. These
were things that brought joy to others and satisfaction to her.

Laurie was preceded in death by her grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. A.B.
Wagner and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Bushong; and an uncle, Jack Bushong.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Lang; children, Jeff and Sarah;
parents, Perry and Joan Bushong of Mountain Home, Texas; sister, Jane Brown of
Mountain Home, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Laurie set a wonderful Christian example and will be missed dearly by all
those who knew and loved her.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2008, at St. John
’s Lutheran Church located on 315 E. Rosewood Ave., Boerne, TX. The service
will be officiated by the Rev. Steve Fick, her former pastor of Messiah
Lutheran Church. She will be buried at the Boerne Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Messiah Lutheran Church,
Boerne; Hosanna Lutheran Church, Kerrville; Holy Cross Lutheran Church, College
Station; or the American Cancer Society.

OBITUARY - ALFRED J. SMILLIE

Alfred J. Smillie, 57, Sanford, died Monday at Midland Hospital. He was born in Mt. Pleasant MI December 29, 1916, and was formerly employed as a carpenter at Pyatt and Howe Construction. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Stinson Funeral Home, Rev. Allen Fick officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Van C. (Ruth) Hutchinson, Reed City; Mrs. Raymond (Barbara) Parks, Union City; Mrs. Charles (Linda) Dice, Hope; Mrs. Robert (Karen) Hagaman, Quincey; Mrs. Raymond (Kim) Brenneman, Allen; four sons, David of Quincey, Daniel in Florida, Steven in Three Rivers, and Bradley in LeRoy; 23 grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Elizabeth) Robert, Rosebush MI.

Mark "Ben" Benjamin Bushong, 16, of Willow Street, passed away peacefully on February 13th after a long illness at his home. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Timothy K. and Deborah L. (Knaut) Bushong.

Ben was a student of Penn Manor High School. He liked music, played the guitar, played tennis, loved his dog and guinea pig. He attended West Willow United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his parents, one sister, Emma C. Bushong at home, paternal grandparents, J. Mark and Martha M. Bushong of Lancaster, five aunts, five uncles and sixteen cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at West Willow United Methodist Church, 118 West Willow Rd, Willow Street, 17584 on Thursday, February 19th, 2009 at 5:30PM, with Rev. C. Michael Roney officiating. Contributions may be made in Ben's memory to G.I. Department of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Pa, 34th Street and Civic Center Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA, 19104-4399.
