The area where the Bushong and Bryan family lived was near the home of Uriah
Fultz and his wife Anna Hoover who had moved from Shenandoah County to
Rockbridge County in 1848. Uriah Fultz died in 1857 and was buried in the Old
Section of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church on the Lee Highway. The widow Anna
Fultz sold the homeplace in Rockbridge County to his brother Isaac Fultz and
moved back to Shenandoah County to Smith Creek Road just north of New Market with
her children, one of which was Amanda Fultz who married Andrew Jackson
Bushong. Today the old Fultz home known as Oak Spring Farm in Rockbridge County is
on the Historic Registry and is located about two miles south of Steele's
Tavern on the Lee Highway at 5895 Borden Grant Trail.
We have visited this place and it is quite lovely.
Some of Isaac Fultz's girls married into the Crist family.
