CHARLES J. BUSHONG
At his home on west Broadway on Tuesday evening, 12 January, Charles J.
Bushong, aged 29 years. Funeral at the M. E. Church at 10 o'clock am
today, conducted by Revs. Thomas and Long. Burial at City Cemetery. No young man
in or about North Baltimore was better known than was Charley J. Bushong.
He was born just across the Hancock County line, and has mingled with our
people during most of the years of his life. For the past eight years he has
lived in North Baltimore and being in some sort of business all the time
had been a widely known person for one of his age. Charley has had for the
past six years a dread of consumption, the disease which had taken from him
his mother while he was yet a child and also a sister Mrs. F. Wagner since
then. He traveled some in hopes of finding an antidote for the disease, but
what little he gained by travel was counteracted by almost a reckless
exposure after he returned. About two months ago he was for the first time
confined to his room. It was never again his fortune to leave it alive. He was
pronounced incurable by attending physicians and though every possible
effort, in way of care and sympathy was shown him, he was, before his real
death, surrendered to the Inevitable. We will often think of this departed
friend of ours. He was everybody's friend, always kind and agreeable. But
Nature's way of transforming one generation after another takes no cognizance of
our kindred or social relationships. What to us is great sorrow is to
Nature but a matter of course, immutable, unmerciful, eternal. About a year ago
he was married to Mrs. Josie B. Lane from Iowa. To his widow and numerous
relatives we extend our most fervent sympathy and condolence. No children. Three bottom children are really grandchildren of Jacob Bushong and Elizabeth Bohart
