DIRECTORS OF THE EXCHANGE BANK OF CHULA, WHICH CLOSED ITS DOORS 20 AUGUST
1927, DEFENDANTS IN $45,000 SUIT.

W. O. Gallatin and others against the directors of the Farmers and
Merchants Bank of Chula, which closed its doors 20 August 1927, is the title of
a suit which is being prepared by J. D. Allen and S. J. Miller, attorneys
for plaintiffs which will be filed in circuit court late today or tomorrow.
The case which involves practically $45,000, will be docketed for trial at
the April term of the Livingston county circuit court.
The petition alleges the bank opened its doors for business 23 May 1927
and closed its doors 20 August 1927; that the bank was insolvent when it
was started and the directors knew that fact; that the institution was
insolvent for each and every banking day thereafter until it failed and was
insolvent or in a failing condition on the date of each deposit set forth in
each of the 54 counts of plaintiffs petition.
The directors of the bank against whom the suit is directed are O. C.
BUSHONG, R. S. Pace, J. W. McLoney, Horace Tate, R. D. Hurst, W. R. May, I.

BANK OF CHULA CLOSES ITS DOORS THIS MORNING

HEAVY WITHDRAWALS, NOT FROZEN LOANS, BELIEVED THE CAUSE OF CLOSING

The Institution, Organized in May, Following Failure of the Exchange Bank,
Started With $30,000 Capital and $12,000 Surplus.

Early visitors to the Farmers Exchange Bank of Chula this morning were
confronted with a sign on the front door reading "closed by order of the
board of directors."
The condition of the Institution, which has not yet been revealed by
its officers, is believed by Chillicothe bankers to be fairly sound. Heavy
withdrawals of deposits during the past fortnight, and not frozen loans, is
said to be the cause of the bank's embarrassment.
The Farmers Exchange Bank was organized following the fairlure of the
exchange Bank of Chula last May. The institution started with a capital
stock of $30,000 and $12,000 surplus. CLIFFORD BUSHONG is president and F. V.
Ross is cashier.
No details of the closing were available here this afternoon. An
Associated Press dispatch from Jefferson City stated that the bank had been
placed in the hands of the state finance departmen

Survivors include her mother, Lula Mae Bushong of Covington; brothers, George Bushong Jr. of Demossville, Timothy Bushong of Largo, Fla., John Bushong of Covington and Robert Bushong of Virginia; sisters, Brenda Noble of Walton and Rebecca Hill of Arizona. *vetting

The only reason George needs vetting is one conflicting obit. Brother Guss' say he was survived by George in 2001.

But two records SS and Kentucky death records says 1962

Is he really Guss' brother? Guss is in Kenton Co. Kentucky in 1940 census. His sister lives 19 miles away from Covington - Mary Elizabeth Locke of Walton, Ky

He and George Jr. both associate with Cinninatti.

On Dec. 31, 1976, Martin sold his printing business and newspaper to Joe and Blanche (Bushong) Trimble. They were joint publishers of the newspaper, with him as general manager of the business and her as editor of the newspaper until his death in 1991.

He was a native of Lexington and she is Monroe County native (daughter of Ronald and Grace [Marshall] Bushong), and both graduated from the University of Kentucky. Before coming back home to Monroe County, she had worked almost 18 years as a news writer/photographer with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service in Lexington, and he was in the insurance business.

Coincidentally, both she and J.E. Leslie, the newspaper’s first editor, share a common ancestor. Leslie’s grandmother, Margaret (Hagan) Harlan, was Trimble’s great–great -grandmother.

She continues as publisher of the newspaper.
