MURDERED AN OLD AND PROMINENT CITIZEN OF WILLIAMS COUNTY, TOGETHER WITH A YOUNG SON, MURDERED IN NEW MEXICO

"M. M. Boothman received a dispatch Tuesday morning announcing that William
Maxwell and his son Emmett, aged 17, were murdered in New Mexico on Friday
last. The message was silent as to particulars, but an associated press
dispatch conveys the information that the murderous deed was committed by a
negro, for money. The bodies were not found till Sunday, and each of the
victims were shot through the head. The murderer was arrested. Mr. Maxwell
was a merchant at West Unity for several years, in company with E. S.
Davies. He entered the army from that place, as Captain of Company C 3d Ohio
Cavalry, serving two years when he resigned, returned home and renewed his former
business association. In 1864 he removed to Panora, Guthrie county, Iowa. He
was elected Clerk of the Court the same year, and was reelected in 1866. Was
elected to represent the county in the Legislature in 1871, but resigned
before his time was out to engage in railroad building. In 1875 he was
appointed to complete a survey of certain reservations in Nebraska, after
the satisfactory completion of which he, with his son Emmett, went to Colfax
County, New Mexico to engage in stock raising. Mr. Maxwell was born in
Lenawee County, Michigan, in 1835 and was married to Sadie Bushong (sister
of Mrs. Boothman) in 1858. He was a man of positive ideas and convictions and
was honored and respected by all with whom he came in contact. The son was
but a small lad when the family left here, but is spoken of as a young man
of fine promise. A bereaved wife and daughter are left alone of the family to
mourn the terrible and cruel calamity."

J. Walter Foy was born on 11 May 1906. He and Harriet B. Bushong were married. He died on 26 October 1972, at age 66. He was buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Petersburg City, Virginia.

Erolyn Francis Blair passed away peacefully on July 10, 2012, at Northwest Health Care in Kalispell.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1927, to Charles and Marie Bushong in San Francisco.

Erolyn and her husband Bob moved to Somers permanently in 1987 from southern California. Erolyn and Bob were married in 1948 in Los Angeles. After many years of working with Bob in the motorcycle business, she retired to stay at home caring for their three sons.

Erolyn loved gardening and quilting. She made many friends while quilting at the Quilt Gallery in Kalispell. For the past several years she spent her winters in Palm Desert, Calif., and summers at her home in Somers.

Erolyn was preceded in death by her husband Bob, in 1996.

She is survived by sons, Mike and his wife Susan of Kalispell, their daughters Shannon Blair and Chris Parrott, and Katie Lanners and Jeff; Joe and his wife Kelli of Bigfork, their son Ricardo; and Steve and his wife Christine of Rancho Mirage, Calif., their daughter Kelly Gehrt and Matt, and son Robert and Courtney; along with five great-grandchildren; sister, Muriel Risdon; four nieces and one nephew; and longtime best friend, Dottie Sprotte.

Erolyn will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend anyone could have asked for. She was generous, gracious, kind, lived quietly with class "and now resides in Heaven."

No services are planned. Donations in her name can be made to the Somers/Lakeside QRU or the American Cancer Society.
